But the biggest problem when trying to hire people is this. A good sound man could blow through your entire budget. I had a $20,000 budget and what I learned is when I talked to people I wanted to hire I had to accept the fact that I was making a low budget film, not a big budget Hollywood...
Now I've got youtube telling me I have third party music problem and I paid for the license but they show the composer as a different person but it's the same music I licensed. Probably a lot of people stealing property and selling it under a different title and author's name. I sent them my...
Most people don't expect to be entertained during the credits. that was my appreciation to a low paid cast and at the screening they very much appreciated it. That is over and people are usually just getting settled in good in that couple of minutes. The black bars are not in the original, I...
It's a indie, not a hundred and fifty million dollar studio production. It's done well over the past couple of years on amazon, check out the reviews. As a matter of fact yours is the first bad one anywhere. It was the first indie allowed in a Cinemark theater without a rating. Yes we had a...
Very nice Race. You're going to be a great cinematographer. Dallas area filmmakers and indie fans, my film will be screening for 2 days at a local Cinemark this month. Check here for details. www.thesharlabutlerstory.com
And what about the sound pro or dp who wants all the budget for himself? One dp tried to convince me that my film would require a month of shooting. They hold no/lo beginners to the same big budget hollywood formulas, which I knew was a joke but would benefit them nicely. I decided to do...
I've been doing a lot of disecting too and I've found that a lot of those first timers that get into Sundance...etc., have connections...know a programmer, in film school and mentor has a connection...etc. I really believe that the larger festivals have forgotten the original mission, which...
Was looking at a movie on tv this weekend and lo and behold, the film had the buy out music I used in my last feature. Confirms what I said about the increasingly high use of buy out royalty free music.
We are indie filmmakers you have to seek out those whose careers are at the same level as yours. One prospective cameraman wanted to charge me a seemingly Speilburg rate and told me a feature takes 28 days firm. Well, those numbers with his day rate work out quite nicely for him. But he's...
What can someone tell me about getting digital film prepared for DCP projection at theater? What are the costs and specs needed. I understand the final product is projected from hard drive?
Save that money for something else. You are asking for trouble. First the look has to work then the acting talent has to be believable. Too much to go wrong on the indie level. Like stated, re-write the part or keep looking for age appropriate talent.
Yeah, but SXSW markets themselves as the true indie film festival. But the truth is they attend and take notes from sundance, and in such, is morphing into the same impossible dream for indie filmmakers.
