nvm figured out the switch is for something else. im guessing it needs to be on the straight line though

when the switch on the mic is on the straight line does that mean the phantom is on? im assuming it is. also im still unclear, do i set the tascam to stereo or auto because with mono it gives me 2 channels it seems but with stereo it gives me one....

do i keep phantom power on or off with the tascam? and also theres a little switch on my technica 897 what is that switch for? also is it better to have stereo or mono.

ok then im prolly gonna return the dr-1oo then. What can i upgrade too that will give me proper film sound levels with my 897. also when i switched the input setting to mono it helped with the volume but made it uglier sound. Is mono a complete no no?

I have my tascam dr100 hooked up to a audio technica 897. For some reason though the gain never reaches close to 0 db. The volume is extremely low. Did i set up something wrong? I have it on stereo, xlr, plugged into the Left xlr input. I even have the switch on the back for the gain set at...

the reason im asking is because alcove recommended to get a cardioid in addition to a shotgun mic kit. Now im just wondering when should a cardioid mic be used. Do you ever use a cardioid and a shotgun together for a scene?

The Kessler stuff looks really promising because if I got their tripod, standard pocket dolly, and 8ft crane I basically can make almost any shot I can think of. also I won't hve to spend money on any type of stabilizer. If I can find something cheaper that does the same thing as these Kessler...

Maybe I'm wrong but wouldn't hiring all these people for who knows how many hours/days/weeks make me spend more money than if I just bought some gear and had some of my buddies help me out?

Thanks for all the great advice, I'm loving it. Also this Kessler company seems to have a bunch of great stuff, basically everything I want lol. Do you think their Hercules head is a good fluid head to get started with? Or is Kessler not that good of a brand at all
