The Bat and the Furious (Brickfilm Short)

I did do something similar for one of the shots - where the guns pop out of the Batmobile. I didn't want to spend the time animating the covers flying off, so I did that shot with OBS. Had to lift the car up high and build a lever to toggle the gear that works the mechanism, but once I built...

The Bat and the Furious (Brickfilm Short)

Tried to be a bit more ambitious this time. Took me about four hours to shoot. I wanted to try out the cameras the kids will be using, as well as try out how I want them to make backdrops using a display board and crayons. The most challenging part by far was timing things out. I had a...

software Premiere Pro getting AI Editing

I'm not sure how I feel about it, but that's partially because I consider myself a VFX artist. All of the examples are things that I can already do and I spent a lot of time learning how to do them and make them look good. One thing I will say, this is the truest example of Computer Generated...

Working on some more funeral shots. When we shot it, I measured out a space in front of a head stone 2 feet wide by 7 feet long and marked it out with tennis balls - or as we called them, tracking markers. I always keep a bag of them with my kit because you never know when you'll need them to...

Tried the hyper lapse people, I wasn't a fan. I showed Karissa and she agreed. I added another sign that says "EMERGENCY" above the seating area and called it good. Sometimes with VFX, less is more. I took a few breaks this weekend and we saw Ghostbusters and Godzilla x Kong. I enjoyed...

Working on the hospital shot today. We shot the scene at a laser therapy place that my wife used to work at. I can't remember the last time that I was in a hospital so I looked up online "hospital signage" and came across some great examples. Reference is always key! In Photoshop, I made...

Howdy! I know it's been awhile, so I figured it was time for some updates. First, we are moved and settled into the new house. And I have my studio/training area all setup. I've been doing Kenpo karate since I was a kid and it's always been my dream to have a place to train on my own. We...

Dino Thunder! - A Brickfilm Short

Thanks. I got the hopping idea from the way my sister used to play with her Barbies. She always made them bounce when they "talked" lol. I think claymation would be great fun too, but maybe too messy for doing in a computer lab with carpets? My wife actually picked me up some modeling clay...

Dino Thunder! - A Brickfilm Short

The last time I did a brick film, I was in 8th grade and shot it on VHS. A lot has changed since then. The college where I teach continuing ed classes on YouTube and video editing asked me if I wanted to teach a camp for kids this summer and the first thing that popped into my head was to do...

Mocked up some concept art for the scene I want to reshoot. Thinking of doing it green screen so that I can insert the actors into an environment like this.

Another update: I think I figured out the issue. It wasn't my computer, it was the hard drive that I store this client's work on. I had purchased it almost three years ago and in that time it had been added too, and old stuff deleted, over and over, basically causing fragmentation. This would...

The fun keeps coming. Computer was working great for a week, then Monday, when I had a client project, it started acting up again. Decided to just buy a new SSD for it and go with a fresh install of everything. The SSD arrived yesterday, got it installed, got Windows 10 installed, and Resolve...

Got it working! I took it apart and rebuilt it yesterday, cleaning all the components and making sure everything was seated properly. Spent a few hours after getting it rebuilt working on a Fusion comp for a client and no hiccups :)

Moving Update: We're 75% moved into the house! Bad news though - my editing computer is acting up. When I moved it, I placed it in the front seat of my truck, and even buckled it in with a seatbelt. Super cautious. In the three days it's been hooked up at the new place, I've had issues...

I'm almost halfway through my shots. Unfortunately things are going to be put on hold for about two weeks as my wife and I move out of our apartment and into a house. Good thing I don't need to do any reshoots at the apartment! In any case, I'm looking forward to having a few acres and a new...

    video Car window footage

I always shoot mine myself. I currently have a pickup truck that makes it easy, but I've also used a friend's hatchback in the past. The nice thing about shooting it yourself is that you can control stops and turns to match with the green screen footage of your actor.

Working on my most difficult shot yet. There's an earthquake scene that we shot practically as much as possible in the middle of a street. For VFX, I wanted to make some transformers explode on power poles, as well as add a huge crack in the asphalt. There's been a few challenges. First...
