industry How do you regulate your life within the industry?

Absolutely! You highlighted the plusses and minuses. I think your post was a great example for the original poster to read. There are so many angles, jobs, dreams, that each person's experience will be different. For most people, the one constant is that it takes a lot of effort.

industry How do you regulate your life within the industry?

So sorry, Rick. I have much respect for your hard work. You are the real deal; a man with the Hollywood experience. I know you've worked longer days than 14 hours, back to back to back. It's a brutal industry. Thank you for sharing the reality.

industry How do you regulate your life within the industry?

I've been at the same job for 32 years. It is not industry related, but it's a Union job with pension, retirement payout, and insurance. 1st priority is to do whatever supports my wife and kids. That is non-negotiable. I've regulated filmmaking and freelancing by making it 2nd priority...

I am a composer of Soundtracks of any kind

Very cool. Good luck to you. I have a room full of keyboards/synths (Kronos, Nautilus, Virus TI, Deepmind 12,Akai Force, etc), that are great for musical scaled sounds. But, lately I've been getting into experimental sounds. I recently bought a Soma Lyra 8, Torso S-4, and now, the VHIKK X...

cinematography Sharing Thoughts On The Black Magic 6K Pocket Pro Camera

I think Blackmagic looks more cinematic than Sony. Is RED even a thing anymore??? Nikon bought them out. Even as far as two years ago, their NAB booth was a very small display, compared to Blackmagic. I edit on Davinci, which handles Blackmagic BRAW natively, which means it can read...

    favorite What's your favorite sequel...

My favorite is TERMINATOR 2. Though there was a lot of hype about the liquid metal CGI villain, there were many practical and creative effects. Linda Hamilton really took her character up a few notches. What a bad-ass transformation! The movie was about 16 times the budget of the original...

    Most useful book

Hmmm, is it the Bible, or the Dictionary of Cultural Literacy? Actually, I'm going to go with Save The Cat. I'm always referencing it, even at work today. I was having a conversation about how big obstacles and strong villains make a story better. My buddy asked, "Why obstacles?" I told him...

favorite What is your favorite buddy film...

I don't know if this is my favorite, but I've seen THE HIDDEN about 15 times, so it's up there. I really like the chemistry between Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Nouri.

top-list What are your top 5 movies of 2024?

Go in with medium expectations. While Kelsey Asbille is in Yellowstone, I was trying to place where I had seen the lead actor, Finn Whitrock. Turns out he was the lead in a little indie movie that I love, called LONG WEEKEND. Totally different character, which is why it took me a while to recall.

top-list What are your top 5 movies of 2024?

ODDITY (A good old fashioned horror yarn) THE SUBSTANCE (balls out crazy. Demi Moore! Great makeup FX) LONGLEGS (Great atmosphere and Maika Monroe) LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL (Nice job of world building a TV show) DON'T MOVE (Good suspense and I love the two leads) I couldn't get into those...

HE CALLED ME BY NAME teaser

Speaking of Merry Christmas, I edited and scored this is a proof of concept trailer, written by my EVIL DWELLS WITHIN buddy, Robert Krause. Shot and directed by Ben Robertson. Robert and his daughter grew up on a diet of Rom-Com and Christmas movies. She said that what I did with it gave it...

    EVIL DWELLS WITHIN

I put this project away for a while. Mostly to work on DRONE DOWN. I'm back at it. Here is Trailer #2, with the rest of the characters. Trailer #1, above (1st post) was comprised of flashback only footage, before we shot the rest of the movie.

Star Trek II director talks about his favorite shot in Wrath of Khan

Nicholas Meyer rescued those movies, twice. After Robert Wise's slow moving STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, Meyer blew it out of the water with WRATH OF KHAN. After Shatner's disastrous FINAL FRONTIER, Meyer brought it back with THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY. He's one of my favorite directors and...

movies What is your favorite obscure movie that most people don’t know about?

Saw that a few times when it came out. I cracked up when they killed a movie crew because they were using video! The movie crosses a few lines. Amazing performance by the guy playing the killer. Charismatic, funny, and ruthless.

movies Desperately looking for this film

Were these people wearing armor and helmets, or were their faces exposed? Were the characters all men? Some women? Old, young, caucasian, black, asian? Pistols, rifles, scopes, overhead displays? Is the building shot up and in ruins (kind of like GAMER), or is it largely unscathed?
