    Entry level DSLR + lens(es) for ~$1000

    1. Yes, the "cropped" sensor of the GH3 produces roughly the look of a 100mm on full frame 135mm. Even lenses tailored for the system will produce a x2 focal length compared to full frame. However, if you've never used full frame, there's really nothing for you to multiply. Just know what lens...

    Entry level DSLR + lens(es) for ~$1000

Artificial is right, GH3 just came out. Also, at least for me, vintage primes have been a gateway towards buying focal lengths I would never have access to in native mount due to price. Additionally, they have a different, less clinical look compared to modern lenses. Whether you like this or...

    BlackMagic announces new camera

This is one thing a lot of people are speculating. Blackmagic has not been very forthcoming or clear about the future raw update. Apparently its going to be, yes, cinemaDNG compressed "lossless" raw. Beyond that, I honestly couldn't clarify for you.

    archived-videos Artorius' Shorts

I'm back with a new short. Well, one scene from my new short. Its going to run about 30 minutes when done. However, we just finished filming this scene this weekend and my editor came back with a rough cut today. We're going to continue shooting this weekend and possibly next week. I just wanted...

Doubt about T4i /APC-S Camera Sensor

Well said. Academy 35, or Super-35, which most Hollywood movies are shot on, is almost exactly the size of APS-C. "Full-frame" is for photography. There are several famous movies shot in Super-16 which is significantly smaller than APS-C! Ever heard of "The Wrestler"?

    First Lense for my GH3

On a hacked GH2 or GH3 using anything less than a class 10 might be unsafe. I would only trust Sandisk Extremes, or other brand class 10's. The data rates and mb write speeds will result in dropped frames on a lower class card. I've tried using cheap cards. Doesn't work.

    BlackMagic announces new camera

Been following the Bolex and other similarly priced cameras for a while. I have a GH2 and was looking at possible upgrade options in the future. The BMPC is definitely THE bang for your buck if they don't have the same distribution problems as before. However, some distribution is better than no...

    DSLR vs "Straight" Camcorders

Sure. And I understand what FUBAR is. I myself come from a military family. Both parents, grandparents, uncles etc. Thanks for serving. Anyways, yes, the OP's tests were flawed. I did agree with that in my original post.

    DSLR vs "Straight" Camcorders

Glad we came to an understanding. Surprised you actually took the time to come back and formulate a response. I never questioned your expertise, or lack thereof, just the way in which it was presented. Look, not trying to ruffle any feathers, just trying to understand why you came off as so...

    DSLR vs "Straight" Camcorders

Guys, all he's trying to do is get opinions for aforementioned "reports". I don't understand why you have to be so difficult. Ray, you especially. I've found on a number of threads you resort to outright hostility, or quick, unhelpful posts. I don't see whats so difficult about this. I mean...

    5D3 v. GH2

Thanks for the advice guys! While I don't expect it to be top tier (it is a class project with a week of production) I do hope it can be seen as a labor of love and a good effort. I'll be sure to post some production stills/the final project if you are really interested. Again, thank you all...

    archived-videos Superman/30 Seconds to Mars

Just a quick music video made for a competition. Had a 3 minute time limit. Questions, comments, etc. welcome. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8_TrWaj2fg&feature=youtu.be EDIT: Seems there was some sort of issue with the upload and the last few seconds display a gray screen. I will...

    5D3 v. GH2

So I am shooting a short this week. It is going to be a satirical piece in the style of a mockumentary. As you can see from the title I am having a dilemma on deciding camera set-up. I personally own a Panasonic GH2 with Sigma 19mm f2.8, SMC Takumar 28mm f2.8 (De-clicked), Auto-Kentar 35mm f2.8...

    Sounds ridiculous to me.

    Beginner camera/computer/ect question

I can comment on this. I have the GH2 and it can run 1080p at 24fps right out of the box. The many hacks out there have different purposes and each merits a try. If you go the GH2 route, be aware that adapting newer electronic lenses will not allow you to use the electronics. I believe only Four...

    Newbie Questions regarding beginner setup.

Good choice on the GH2! I'm having a lot of fun with mine! If you want a cheap and capable wide angle on the GH2... you're not going to find one. If you want a wide angle in the m4/3 format you need to use native lenses, wide angles being expensive. The cheapest I've found is the Panasonic 14mm...

    Vintage Lenses

I think I've got just that exact bug! It does become quite obsessive! I'd love to explore more m42 mount lenses, but most of the vintage lenses I've located are bayonet mount, probably FD. What I love about the Takumar is it's full metal construction, no plastic parts to bring down the...

    archived-videos Artorius' Shorts

Hey guys! I finally have some new footage for your viewing pleasure! (or displeasure  ) This was shot mostly on a Panasonic GH2 with a Sigma 19mm lens. However, the last scene in the parking lot was shot with a Panasonic camcorder. Had a sound recorder with plugged in boom mic for sound. It...

    Vintage Lenses

Hey there! It's been quite a while, but lately I've gotten deeper into the world of DSLR shooting. Seeing as I have very little money, lately I've been searching pawn shops, craigslist, etc. for deals on vintage film lenses. So far my search has yielded a SMC Takumar 55mm f2 m42 mount for $10...

    Sigma 19mm vs. Olympus 17mm

Hello good sirs and madames of Indietalk! I was recently gifted a 40mm-150mm Olympus lens for MFT for my Panasonic GH2. Now I'm looking to get a second lens. My options are a Sigma 19mm for $199 or an Olympus 17mm for $145. If you were in my position, which lens would you purchase and why?
