archived-videos Don't Let Me Go - Detroit 48hr Horror Project

Hey, all! Figured I'd put up a link to a video I worked on for a 48hr festival recently. Here it is. Comments and critiques welcome. Pretty proud of how it turned out, all things and limitations considered. It managed to win the audience award for our group, so that's something. Anywho, enjoy!

    Characters with quirks.

To me it speaks of aloofness, yet power. It's actually a theme that others have used numerous times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6TZz_niaF4 Here's one powerful and early example from "Paths of Glory".

How exactly do you contact a famous celebrity to put as a cameo in your movie?

Also a viable option would be to look up casting agents for your project. Sometimes a good casting agent can open up a lot of doors, and diminish a LOT of stress.

lighting Lighting outdoors when it's cloudy.

+1 to baoliun. Cloudy days are some of the softest light imaginable. For the most part the lighting is likely to come out very flat. When you're close, however, you could fly a few flags to cut the light into something a bit more dramatic. Beyond that? Prepare for some power masking in post...

Good news for indie film makers

There is no way that this isn't legit.

    Breaking Bad

Two-and-a-half for seven. Not terrible. I liked it, but after the season 3 and 4 endings, this one just couldn't hold up. Freem was the ultimate villain for Walt, at least as far as external conflict goes. The looming threat of Hank was probably second place. Jack and Todd? Probably not even...

Video game consoles are focusing on blockbusters.

Trying to demand the enlistment of an ever-shrinking base of loyalists is NEVER the right way to go. The video game indie counter-culture seems to mirror in many respects the one for film. I only hope they continue to build the pressure on the big businesses until they crack.

    Wow, what a horrible video.

I don't think you understand, they have a Star Filter! That means it's a good music video! Seriously, though, it does come across as rather underwhelming, especially after the video miniseries on "Discovery". If that's the feel of what they wanted, though, c'est la vie.

character How to make characters talk about random things? (comedy)

Holy crap, pump the brakes! You're trying to figure out how to better make the movie not progress? This is essentially a trick question. Everything should have a point, or it should be cut! The Tarantino method works for Tarantino because he's Tarantino. He has a brilliant way of keeping...

    actor :(

Good luck! Let the other guy's bitchiness inspire you to greater heights! I find it funny that you're an actor offended by that generalization, yet who has the screen name "Ihatemyjob"...just sayin'.

Is the director being unfair to me?

Harm, it quite honestly sounds like you're on the verge of INTENTIONALLY sabotaging your friend. If you REALLY don't care THAT MUCH, but REALLY want to help her, then you should have just helped find a PSM/sound tech that would work for free. You'll probably get someone relatively low on...

    Is it too fast?

Coming up with a nice, concise short is difficult to do. Don't mistake your story being simple for it being too short. You should be in and out of this tale in 1-3 minutes more than likely, and if done well it'll feel tight, but impactful. Most important, though, would be to actually do it...

    Old Boy remake coming up!

I'm a big fan of the original, and tend to be HIGHLY critical of remakes. That having been said, so far what I've seen of it is enough to keep me interested, and that's BEYOND rare. I mean, is everyone here REALLY pissed because it looks bad? Or maybe, JUST MAYBE are you thinking it looks much...

Best Editing Pc for under $1,000

editing Flashing ambulance lights in POST

Are you going day-for-night with this? 'Cause if you're leaving it as day, the light would probably look quite unnatural on her, unless she's as shiny as the dash. Also, if she IS as shiny as the dash, might I suggest having someone to do basic correctional make-up on set...

    A Lotta Bit O' Action

Good call on the Harryhausen. I can only imagine how it must have been to watch his movies on their initial release, watching fantasy play out on screen how it never truly had before.

    A Lotta Bit O' Action

Hey, everyone. Not sure if this video has been posted yet, but I figured I'd put it up as a precursor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fZzxMZ9hLU So, what are your favorite fight scenes of all time? What are your favorite action scenes of all time that might not be fight scenes? Finally...
