Feature film vs hour long episode.

Take an hour long episode of a series such as Quincy or CSI. How is this different from say an hour long Indie Film of a similar or smaller budget? Trying to answer my own question I would say that in a film "every second should count" whereas in a tv episode there may be a lot of "filler"...

So why do I need an H4N?

Probably this is what I should do!!! Although... I would like to learn about sound recording just so I know about what the audio people are doing.

So why do I need an H4N?

I was reading this: http://osgfilms.com/improve-gh2-audio/ about plugging the H4N into the camera. But is this any better than plugging a microphone into the camera? SUrely the camera can't record good enough sound whatever you plug into it?

So why do I need an H4N?

So is it to do with the electronics in the audio recorder that means it can record sound better? Rather than the microphone itself? i.e. the electronics take the microphone signal and transform it into 1's and 0's better on the recorder than on the camera? ^I've just seen the above reply. So...

    What do you guys think...

Looks really a really interesting story. Because I'm really into framing I would say that sometimes the tops of people's heads are cut off by the top of the screen whereas I personally prefer it when you can see the whole of someone's head on the screen. But it depends what you're going for...

So why do I need an H4N?

OK this is probably a stupid question but I'm getting an DSLR (Panasonic GH2) and I know I'll need a shotgun mircophone. But what exactly does one of these H4N's do and why can't I just plug the microphone into the camera to record the sound - and what would happen if I did? I've seen pictures...

    Hello from sunny Manchester!

Hello, well Manchesters always a good setting to shoot films in. Unless your films not set in Manchester in which case not.

    Best camera for under £1000?

Well I've ordered the GH2. (Which I hadn't considered before coming to this forum!) My reasons are that i've heard it's easier to use, the skin tones seem nicer out-of-the-box and it suffers less from the moire patterns. Plus it has a nice 3D lens attachment which although the lenses look a bit...

    Best camera for under £1000?

FPS I was just about to buy the GH2 when I realised that perhaps it doesn't shoot at 25fps which is what would be needed for PAL in UK!!!! Is this true?? Does this mean that Europeans shouldn't buy the GH2? ------------although I suppose it doesn't matter these days as who buys Blue Rays...

    Best camera for under £1000?

Skin tones From what I've read in other places, skin tones are better on the GH2 and it doesn't suffer from the moire effects. ....but Canon t2i has a more filmic "softer" quality. Now considering I will mostly be shooting people it leads me to think the GH2 is more what I want? Unless I...

    Best camera for under £1000?

G3? What about the Panasonic G3? It isn't GH3 but does shoot HD video at 1080p and is really cheap. Any thoughts on that one?

    Best camera for under £1000?

If that is true then I think I will get the T3i (since it seems to be the same price as the T2i and I'm assuming T3i>T2i). That will save me a load of money! With the spare money I might get one of those Loreo 3D lenses just for fun. I wonder why the 7D is so more expensive then? Just...

    Best camera for under £1000?

Memory Just thinking with these DSLR cameras, how much video could you shoot on the memory that is supplied? I would imagine a hour of video recording would be adequate for any days shooting? (My naiive estimate!)

    Newbie to lighting

I'm a complete noob to lighting. All I know about it is that it's the most important part of filmmaking after the sound! Has anyone got any tips especially for shooting indoors? Or any good links to doing lighting on a budget? The kind of lighting I'm interested in is not realistic or film noir...

    Best camera for under £1000?

That is very cinematic. I'll have to check out the GH2. It has quite an arty feel with the green colour pallette. The style I personally would like to achieve is the more vibrant "Hollywood" studio style or Fifth Element/Barbarella style which are French productions. Sort of like this...

    Best camera for under £1000?

(I think it's called the 600D in UK). I am considering this. I have seen some nice footage. The Canon 5D Mkii is desribed as having full 1080p HD while the T3i is described as having Full HD EOS. (Not quite sure what that means!). I think it would make sense to save the money though is the...

    Best camera for under £1000?

I did consider hiring a camera for example from here: hireacamera.com but then I thought once you'd hired it out 10-20 times it would cost the same as buying it. But maybe the secret is to shoot the film very quickly over a few weekends. As for sound yes I expect that if I went for an SLR...

    Hello from Brighton

Hello my names Paul from Brighton, England. I am currently writing a script for an indie film which I hope to have produced and shot by this time next year. My budget for the whole thing including equipment, is £2000. So I'm mainly counting on the script and acting to carry the film. The film is...

    Best camera for under £1000?

Hi I'm looking for a camera for my new Indie Film. I wan't a cinematic look rather than a home-video look. So I need a good camera with high quality. I think that means I need one with a large sensor. I've narrowed it down to 3: which shoot full HD at 1080p Canon 7D (about £1000) Canon 5D...
