Why shouldn't you use friends as actors? I'm gona shoot my first proper short film, I've made about 5 short films but they've been more tests. It's gona be 30 minutes long, and I'm spending 6 months in pre-production. I've got three actors involved, all friends. Why is it a bad idea? Just wondering.

Lenses. Camera bodies are worth nothing without decent glass on them. Go for primes if you want top quality.

DSLR

Kevin Smith's films are so lame aha.

Pick up an 18-55 or whatever focal lengths you need then you're good to go!

Before you go spending money on a camera, learn what DSLR means.

I use a wide angle lens on my camera most of the time. They're needed if you need a wide shot.

Learn to cut people out better.

I always put three seconds of black before my short films. Because when you double click on a video to make it bigger, the play/fastforward etc buttons still show up for a second or two, so I look to give it a few seconds of black to allow them to fade away. But yeah, try to make it too long...

David Lynch's Inland Empire makes sense, but only after repeated viewings. Edit: and even then, some scenes don't make sense (all the ones with the rabbits in). But I understand the basic storyline and idea.

I've never looked at a DVD box and though oh I might like that film. I always watch trailers, reviews etc of films on the internet and then buy the film. I assume that's what most people do. :/
