    cinematography Samyang35mm or Canon50mm

Gray market means it has had at least 1 previous owner, I have the Canon 50mm 1.4, which was about $300, it's gorgeous on my 7D. I also, have a SamYang 85mm 1.4, and it also has a nice look. I would say this.. if you plan on doing strictly video, go for the SamYang. It has a hardstop focus...

archived-videos Hidden Scene from Harry Potter and The Order of Pheonix

Thanks everyone! knightly - I used a 650w ARRI open face with a REALLY BIG softbox, I think it's like 6 ft (one of the few perks of film school) for the key and had a reflector bouncing it back at her for a fill. I also had some CTB on the softbox... I love using that softbox, but it's a mess...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5dYE5z21Zg&feature=g-upl Hey all, this is my first assignment for my advanced lighting class... we were told to perform match lighting to perform a believable composite. I think I did fairly well on the wide shot in there, but my CU is weaker.. Let me know...

Shooting in a Mall - How tha F*$@?! HELLPPPP

I figure there has got to be a way I could fake it. I mean, I know I could easily build flats, make fake walls, etc... But that wouldn't be very cost effective. Also, in terms of space - malls are big, open spaces where Santa sets go... So how do I fake it, for cheap, but still look...

Shooting in a Mall - How tha F*$@?! HELLPPPP

Hey Guys (& possible gals), I'm beginning work on my senior thesis film, and trying to find a mall to shoot in. I'm having terrible luck! I'm in the Kansas City area. I've tried live malls, dead malls, and they have all said no so far. Even when I offered getting insurance and small...

That was great! Really funny, and pretty darn good lookin. What kind of lenses were used here?

cinematography How do I get this type of exposure?

That high shutter look you're talking about is actually time lapse photography that is how they captured all the city's activity in a fast motion. If the "look" you are asking about is the city night lights and having the actors in the foreground you would simply expose for the city lights and...

Question for those who know steadicams.

Hmmm... I get what you're saying... I will have to investigate the arm further... although I don't think my supervisor will appreciate me taking it off the wall ;)

Question for those who know steadicams.

While working at Dunkin Donuts the other day I noticed that our monitor, to tell us what coffees to make, was mounted to the wall by an isostatic wall mount... So I pose the question. Would this isostatic wall mount work for a steadicam vest isostatic arm? I think it would in theory... I...

Recommended DSLR Fluid head for under $300

I own the 701HDV and it's a great head. Especially for smaller cameras such as DSLR's. I shoot with a 7D.

Can only focus when zoomed in

Who loaned it to you? Are they reliable? Have you tried different lenses? Do they focus? If other lenses work, it's something wrong with the lens.. if you haven't tried other lenses you should

Can only focus when zoomed in

So it will focus fine in servo zoom? where did you rent it from?

Can only focus when zoomed in

Lots of zoom lenses focus differently at different focal lengths. But if it's not focusing at all at other focal lengths... the focusing barrel might be off?

For those looking for lenses on a budget.

Yeah, I did spend about a half hour in there. It would've went faster if I asked where their photo gear was (if they had any). But if you're looking for a cheap lens fix it's definitely worth the time to peruse around some stores :P I put them on my camera last night and they look pretty...

For those looking for lenses on a budget.

Just thought I would share that yesterday I went out to a local Salvation Army. I was looking around for some random things, when I got to the counter (where they keep the more expensive small goodies *i.e. CAMERAS!) I decided to take a look at what they had. Here's what I ended up walking...

    Would it be worth it?

That's something I thought about... The more I ponder the more silly it seems at the time. Phil - I am still curious as to how you went about selling that Timelapse video !

    Would it be worth it?

Has anyone used Zeiss compact primes? Does anyone here own any? Would it be worth it for me (I wish to work camera dept.) to invest in some compact primes? As of now I have a Canon 7D, but I do plan to upgrade to something such as the AF-100 or similar. What are your opinions/experiences?
