    Fencing

Hey guys, I was just noticing in Clive's Glidecam thread that there seem to be several people around here who fence or who have fenced. I didn't want to hijack the original thread so I figured I'd start a fresh one. =) Knighly, sounds like you currently fence? Do you have a weapon you study...

    Which camera to buy?

Ah great point Clive. I forgot that the base price was so low. I love the DVCpro50 stuff I've seen and you can move up to HD whenever you are ready.

New Toy (Glidecam) - first impressions

Hey, thanks for posting some footage Clive! EDIT: You fence Knightly?! Small world! What weapon(s)?

    sony HDR-HC1 or Panasonic PVGS-400?

I can't claim this wisdom as my own Clive - Wideshots the one deserving of recognition. ;-) About the grain: Could be from gain as previously mentioned or it could be from over-zealous color correction.

Use flourescents - take Knightlys approach. Cheap and effective with no need for diffusion. If you want really hard light you can always plug in the work lights for a shot or two.

    IQ test

Interesting Knighly. Confirms what I suspects though. There's no way I have an IQ of 142! =) In any case, we have a lot of intelligent people on this board (though I hardly needed a test to prove that)! Any chance you could elaborate? Aren't these things supposed to have a time limit or...

Hello. Interested in doing this myself.

Welcome to the board! Do you have demo music online? That would help most of the filmmakers out I think. =)

    IQ test

Interesting... I wonder how this would stack up against a certified IQ test.... I'm not sure I trust my test results.... "Your IQ score is 142! Visionary Philosopher Your mind's strengths allow you to think ahead of the game -- to imagine or anticipate what should come next in just about any...

    Which camera to buy?

Alright here is Barry's response to my question:

    Which camera to buy?

In cineframe mode that's what the results seem to suggest - interlaced mode is significantly higher res. I should probably mention that Barry was part of this comparison (in fact he was basically the guy who set it up!). Adam Wilt is a very impressive and technically inclined person (guru...

    Which camera to buy?

Yeah, sorry, should have provided that. My apologies! Here's a summary of a 4 cam comparison (well 6 actually with the F900 and Varicam) written by Adam Wilt: LINK You will need to be a member to view the article so I'll quote the appropriate passage (and a few that are just plain...

    Which camera to buy?

Yes there is some quality loss. How much depends on the method you use really. Some are great (Magic Bullet does a fantastic job) while others suck (such as dropping one field and duplicating the other). If I were you I would consider going with the JVC HD100 instead... it has more real world...

    Requesting Screen Grabs

Hey guys, I've decided to finally write a tutorial on color correction. Everything is going well but I'm finding that I don't have enough decent examples to work from that I can legally use. If anyone out there has some images with color imbalances, improper white balance, overexposure...

top-list Top 10 things you'd like to know more about in moviemaking

Great thread! This will help people who write tutorials out a lot. I've been thinking about a color grading/correction tutorial but haven't ever gotten around to it. Maybe sometime. Clive, if you have time I think everyone here would love a tutorial on working with actors. I could use it at...

    300

Have you guys seen the website for the movie "300"? Holy crap! It looks fantastic! http://300themovie.warnerbros.com It's based on the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. It's a fantastic story - I'll briefly sum up for those not familiar with it: Thermopylae is a greek word (Θερμοπύλαι)...

    Panasonic HVX200

Some people love the cards other hate them for the price. A lot feel both ways =). The footage form the camera is very nice. I really like the DVCpro50! Looks GREAT. I've decided against buying one for myself though. I'm going to go with a mod of my DVX100 by reel-stream. This isn't...
