Shooting an entire feature in a weekend

Haven't been on here too much lately. But I read an article a couple months ago over on Web Film School about shooting an entire feature film in a weekend. ONE weekend, not just filming on the weekends over the course of a few months or a year. And it was like a lightbulb turned on over my head...

on Kickstarter can a perk amount exceed your goal?

As far as I know, you can make your perks any amount you want. Should be in their documentation.

Writing and Budgeting and Scheduling, Oh My!

For writing drafts, I use Google Docs and John August's Fountain syntax. Makes it easy to write from wherever. And I have current drafts synced for offline use so I can work whether my internet is working or not. For breakdowns and scheduling, I've been using Celtx. Although I'm also a fan of...

    Filming Sex

I tend to agree with this. Plus, what happens if you wait till the end and the actors actually HATE each other? It's easy enough to fake passion, but it's harder to cover up hatred. And what if you've got 90% of your movie shot and then one or the other just refuses to do the scene? If you've...

Finding a furnished house to film in

Depending on your location, you might try vacation rentals. You might be able to strike some kind of deal with the owner if you shoot during a slow season or when they're not booked.

    What Are You Reading?

I've been devouring books written by one of my best friends. So the last two books I've read are Taggers and Swallow, both by Brandt Miles. And currently I'm reading Son of Man, also by Brandt, though that one hasn't actually been released yet (perks of knowing the author :D). I've also been...

Never mind. Finally found examples from The Writers Store. For anyone interested: (centered) Title Name Phone - Email Genre (left aligned) Logline Synopsis

    format One-sheet format?

So, without going into details, I have a really awesome opportunity to send a one-sheet to an exec with a rather impressive development deal. Now, I know the basics of what it needs to include (name, email, script title, logline, synopsis, etc.), but I'm not really sure how I should format it...

Who works alone doing video production?

I do music videos effectively on my own. I occasionally use a grip if there are special setups that need to be done (zip line for my GoPro, for example). Music video means I don't have to record sound beyond a scratch track for lining things up (in-camera audio and built-in microphone is more...

    Project Film Supply Entry

Just wanted to let everyone here know about my Project Film Supply entry, Wildflower. While the grand prize is chosen by the people at The Music Bed, there are two prizes based on votes. So, if you like what you see, please vote. :) Here's the blurb about the film: Prizes for this thing are...

    My successful failed crowdfunding campaign

Yeah, I'm sure that's why it failed. I knew from the start it wasn't likely to succeed, but was hoping I'd find someone who wanted to basically pre-buy a music video from me (my goal was low, so it wouldn't have taken much). Next time I go the crowdfunding route, I'll be doing it for a...

Shooting Random People in a Public Place

The ACLU has some helpful info on this subject. And there's some more helpful info here, from NMR. Basically, if you're in a public place, you're okay unless there are local/state laws that differ. But be sure to check and see if you need a permit (there's a good chance you could in any sizable...

    Title First or Title Last?

For me it totally depends on the project. Sometimes a title will come to me, but more often than not, titles are a really difficult thing for me. My current screenplay started out with the working title "supernatural road trip movie" because that was the best I could come up with and I needed...

    My successful failed crowdfunding campaign

So I recently attempted to crowdfund for some new equipment on IndieGoGo (since Kickstarter doesn't allow non-project-related fundraising). Honestly, it was a half-hearted attempt at best, and I was more trying to use it to get more music video bookings. It failed miserably. BUT! Someone saw...

    $150 to spend on accessories...

I already have a car mount for my GoPro, and like him, wouldn't use my good camera for those kinds of shots. :D

    $150 to spend on accessories...

Those are all great suggestions, but I think I'm covered already. I've got six or seven batteries for my camera, so I'm set on those (last all-day shoot I did, I only ended up using 2). No field audio recorder, since I'm just doing music videos at the moment and suck at audio anyway (and will...

    $150 to spend on accessories...

So I got a little holiday bonus from one of my employers in the form of a $150 Amazon gift card. I want to spend it on various small accessories for making music videos (so no audio equipment required). Here's what I'm planning on getting: Opteka X-Grip - $20 DSLR Rain Coat (we're going to be...

    Production Diary: Music Video

Thanks! I wish I'd gotten more pics from the premiere, but unfortunately I was too busy running around talking to people and keeping track of the band members to take many.

    Production Diary: Music Video

We screened the video last night at our local bar. We ended up with a massive ice storm, so rather than the 80 or 90 people we were expecting, probably 20 showed up. The other band that played did a fantastic job and is now interested in a video. Our video was really well-received. And here it...

    editing Alternatives to h.264?

It converts it to H.264. But seems to do a better job of it than doing it directly with Adobe Media Encoder.
