    watch Forgotten Stars trailer

Thanks for the heads up - I'll post there sometime this week. I'm preparing for a return showing here; the first was really for cast, crew and friends and was more of a screening. This is the real deal with press and advertising, it's taking all my free time.

    Blue Screen

Thanks, the effects look clean, especially the zombies. I'll play around. And NOBODY can fix bad greenscreen as far as I can tell. If you screw up the shot, you'll pay for it! Good looking trailer, as I'm sure you've heard before. The pacing is very good, great action.

    Video for the web

I'll just weigh in and agree with that statement. I'd be leary of someone who leads with their equipment; ask for dvd or vhs tapes so you can see what they have done, base your judgement on what they are able to create. The format you need is dictated by the venue you'll use to display, for web...

    Blue Screen

Spatula, Have you used this and found it to work? I've tried a couple of demo versions and been disappointed with the results, took a TON of cleaning up. I began to think I'd have to pony up some big bucks for viable software, I'd love to have something that works for under $100.

Thanks - the final version is 43 minutes - we had a 52 minute one that sagged a bit so we cut some of our favorite bits. Painful but I think it works better.

Hijacking a thread!: Let's play What If...

I just read that and am now caught up to speed. No more redundant ideas from me, but I'd be glad to help out with any solutions. Spatula's last post puts it pretty concisely and correctly. The broad-based goals are valid, the devil is always in the details. It's a collaborative distribution...

What Do You Want to See in Theaters?

I just went to our independent cinema to see "Broken Flowers", Jim Jarmusch. It's a slow, thoughtful almost anti-film film and I could really appreciate the situation of an older man assessing his life. But... ...when I take my 14-year-old to see "Skeleton Key" I know she'll be creeped out and...

Hijacking a thread!: Let's play What If...

Now this is a discussion worth joining. It isn't hard to make a splash on the local level in mid-level markets if you have a good project. We have a local art house theater that shows all the winners of the indie film circuit but as has been pointed out, that route is already in place. The...

    A-Talent

Here's the catch -22. You can't approach an actor or agent without money. The agent is the keeper at the gate and isn't about to consider anything without a guarantee of money, neither is the actor. It's next to impossible to line up funding without some sort of real name attached. So... If...

New to documentary : need advice

Zensteve is right, the lapel mic is a worst case scenario. An XLR mic on any kind of boom (mop handle, broomstick, dinasour bones) will likely sound better. We did some interviews with some lav mics and the sound wasn't great. They pick up lots of clothing rustle and tended to muffle the vocals...

    Chroma Keying Objects

It sounds like you want to superimipose an image that you have green screened, correct? If so, you need to have a perfect lighting set up for the green screen, it's crucial for keying out the screen. Even then you may have to tweak it by masking some of the outer area. Here's a brief...

    REALLY easy question

Um...for a clapboard or hits to the crotch? I use my hands, too, but the less said about that the better. In fact, I've already said too much.

it's time for a new independent movie industry

You can't "instantly" replicate or compete with a well-established bohemeth that has one hundred years of branding and close to 100% market share. And you shouldn't try. Here's the analogy. Don't build a new OS and try to topple Microsoft, build software that Microsoft can't make and don't...

    REALLY easy question

No one should ever laugh at anyone, unless they walk into something. That always cracks me up. Oh, and zippers that are unzipped, that gets me too. It's a clapboard or a slate - I'm not sure where you'd get a local one but here's a cheap one from a website I googled...

good 2/3rds movie or great ending?

The big problem with this is that you won't know if people hate or love anything until long after you've done your bit. So of course it's not based on what other people think, it's what you think when you're reading the script. I'm nitpicking, I know, but in applying this hypothetical to a real...
