Maintaining theme throughout a life story

The current script I'm working on spans the entire life of the protagonist. Is it essential that the theme of the story be present in every scene? Is it wasted story telling if you are showing how the person got from one point to the next if doesnt incorporate the theme? Thanks for any help!

    Cast or Crew first?

In pre-production for a micro budget short does it matter if I assemble the crew first or the cast first? Is it easier one way or the other? Thanks!

What is the purpose of film school?

This is an age old question. Not to offend anyone (but I know this probably will, sorry) but personally I think alot of people who go to filmschool want to be involved in making movies but lack creativity or artistic vision. They need to be coached along the way. I'm sure someone is now gonna...

Using copyrighted music in a short

If I'm just making a very short short film to share with my friends on Facebook is it bad if I use music I do not own the rights to? I know its still technically illegal but could I ever get in any real trouble? Thanks!

Should you shoot entire film on one ISO setting?

I've tried installing Magic Lantern but it always freezes during the install process. And I did everything exactly as specified. Very frustrating!

Should you shoot entire film on one ISO setting?

Or is it ok to use a couple. I like 200 on my T3i but I also like to use 100 sometimes. I never go over 200 for video.

    Common ND filter

I'm looking at ND filters for the nifty fifty I'm picking up. I'm not worried about brand, I'm getting B+W and they are good. But what is a common filter to get for as far as how much light it blocks. I see all kinds on amazon from really dark to really light. Do I need more than one?

    f/stop on outdoor panaramic

So if I need to stop down on anything beyond f/11 to avoid blowout I should probably invest a nice filter huh?

    f/stop on outdoor panaramic

I'm shooting a sunrise with the Tokina 11-16mm lens on a T3i. I am keeping the aperature at 50 and ISO at 200. So in order to not blow it out I have the f/stop cranked up to 18-20. Is this hurting the image? Do I need a filter so I can shoot on a lower f/stop? Thanks guys!!

    How essential are filters?

I've got a nice B&W UV filter on my Tokina 11-16mm but now I am reading that perhaps a filter like this can effect the image quality. Wondering if I should take it off and see what a difference it makes? I've also read the debate over simple protective filter vs. not is quite ongoing?

    How essential are filters?

If I have a 77mm filter with front threading, then that will stack with another 77mm filter correct? Just wanna be sure before I buy it. Thanks guys!
