    rant about "art"

In my opinion something like "bad art" doesn't exist. It either is art or it isn't. One of the basic rules of aesthetics is the balance of form and content. If the work fails to communicate the intended meaning to the viewer it's simply not art or in other words: if the artist has to explain...

How did Pulp Fiction break the writing rules? (SPOILERS)

Pulp Fiction didn't break any rules actually. According to Christopher Vogler in his book "The Writer's Journey", if you look at the structure of the individual stories each of them basically follows the conventions of "The Hero's Journey".

Film = #2 most worthless degree

I said having a degree is pretty useless, going to film school in Austria is the exact right thing to do but not because of the education. @Nate North: wrong continent. in addition: no (or very low) tuition fees in austria.

Film = #2 most worthless degree

I generally agree that a degree in filmmaking is pretty useless, however it also depends on where you are. here in austria there's only one important filmschool and it's a department of the public university. entrance exam is pretty tough and they only take something like 15 people every year...

    One hit wonder film directors

isn't the common feature of all one-hit wonders that they are the only commercially successful songs/films/etc. by an "artist" or am I missing the point? I don't know if something like "art" one hit wonders exist at all because how do we judge which work is artistically more valuable?

What is a good original plot for a super hero movie?

reminds me of a TV show from a couple of years ago called Norman Normal. but there it's just one family except the son who became superheroes.

    Who is your favorite artist.

mine is Caspar David Friedrich I knew/liked some of his pictures already, but then I stumbled upon this one and was speechless, I can't explain why this picture made such an impression on me. I also like Edward Hopper and some others I can't think of right now, but Caspar David Friedrich is my...

    Anybpdy ever felt this way?

I completely agree with what all the others have said. you're just starting out, making mistakes is a part of learning, just don't make the same mistake twice. if any of the comments about your film hurt you, don't give up but keep working. success is the best revenge.

    Next up: Ingmar Bergman

Béla Tarr's films are most definitely worth watching, he's one of my favorite directors of all time. I liked Werckmeister Harmonies but I think his best film is Satantango, if you haven't checked that one out you should, and don't worry about the running time. I can't wait until his latest film...

Persona is my personal favorite, though I think The Seventh Seal is a good film to start with.

'Blade Runner' prequels, sequels in the works

afaik there are a couple of sequels of the book "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?", not written by Philip K. Dick though. These sequels are "officialy authorized", whatever that means. I haven't read any of them, so I can't say whether they're good or bad, but at least there's something the...
