movies Movies you liked as a child, but not as an adult.

So, has this happened to you?,
You watch a movie as a kid; you love it and cherish it, but when you revisit it as an adult, looking for that rush of nostalgia, you find that it's just doesn't hold up. For me, I used to like "The Son of The Mask" (Yes, I was the ONE person who liked this movie) but after revisiting it...... oof.

Hmm well most movies aimed at kids aren't aimed at adults so... makes sense? Or do you mean something you saw in your 20s vs... later on?

I did like Steven Seagal pics and had a poster lol! I think this is more of what you mean. Your formative years, when you were watching what you thought was the shit! And now..... is, actually... shit.

Not exclusively movies aimed at kids. So like, when I was young, I saw movies like Bad Boys and IT and so it can be any movie. But maybe when you were younger, you enjoyed a movie with a really bad plot or crappy characters, but didn't realize it when you were younger. You watch it now and it's like "Holy cow, this sucks!" Or other reasons.

Honestly, there are very few movies that I watched as a kid/young person and have re-watched - only things generally considered classics, which hold up well for me.

These range from classic musicals like My Fair Lady to dramas like The Godfather, The Candidate (which I re-watched a few weeks ago and liked better than ever), Bonnie and Clyde, Reds, etc.

What about Goonies? More of a kids flick but holds up very well for adults.

One for me is "Kangaroo Jack"
It's just so boring now, lol

Well, as a 7 year old I did watch some Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill movies with my dad.
The cheesiness of the slapstick did not age well with me.

As we get older our taste in films changes in the same way that our "favorite food" changes. We get a little older and wiser. We know more about good and evil...about relationships...about life in general...about the world. And about ourselves. All of that doesn't even take into account how filming techniques have changed over the years...the use of low light video cameras instead of film, steadycam rigs...CGI. Compare horror movies of today to those made 50 years ago that didn't have CGI. Or compare a "futuristic" film like ROCKETSHIP X-M (1950) made without CGI to the STAR TREK movies of today. BUT...an old movie doesn't always mean bad movie. Old films that were well written and well shot are just as good today as when they were originally made. Look at GONE WITH THE WIND (1939). On the other hand, a poorly written, crappy film will always be a poorly written crappy film.
And lets face it, most of the films that we liked as kids were pretty stupid. The films were made for us kids to watch, and we loved them... Most of us have hopefully moved on since then.

You bring a GREAT point. It's just funny how something that has remained the same for years can have a completely different impact on us when we get older.

The same goes for old TV-series.
IMO Knigh Rider aged badly, because it is mostly gadget driven, but The A-Team is still fun because it's mostly character driven.
