I got into the writing without really following the rules.
I'd seen others screenplays and I didn't really get the format.
It's pretty much the same. All I did differently was leave out the Int. when changing a scene, and I use spacing to show time lapse.
When I introduce a character, I explain that characters entrance, and when a scene changes I use an abnormal amount of spacing different than the previous space. I may go back and indicate that. And I explain the time of day at the beginning of the scene.
When I see my film and how it is made, I take my time.
It's slow, like Kubrick and van Sant.
So I used spacing to show that.
It's really all only for me. I'm not writing for anyone else so I could use it however I want.
I'm not done, and it's over 120 pages. I was expecting to follow the 1 page:1 minute ratio, so it's already a feature film.
Would you believe it wise to begin a career in film with such a strong opening?
Most speak about beginning with short films, but I really have no interest with those.
Some of the films bulk comes from Ambience in the desert climate.
Included is realistic character development.
At the end is Psychological Suspense and some external conflict.
I wish, but couldn't say it is as good or slow as 2001: A Space Odyssey, but I know it would not be able to keep attention of the typical teenager. I feel it appeals more to the young adult audience that see a film for more than cheap entertainment.
I've gone off in a tangent.
Do you follow the traditional screenplay format?
Or do you just write what you feel?
