Writer or Director

Well to start off am going to graduate high school this year.. i want to be a director and make movies/tv shows.. thing is i don't know if i have the talent to be a successful director.. i am a natural writer i think.. i am constantly coming up with these stories in my head.. usually fantasy stories.. i don't even try it just comes instinctively.. i already have a idea and plot for a fantasy book i could write.. i feel it could be very successful because of how unique it is.... this thing is i feel like writing is also a risk.. when it comes to success and making actual money... i love movies very much.. and i feel making movies and being in that whole scene would be very enjoyable for me... i just don't know what to do.. or what i am doing...

Well first of all, ideas are a dime a dozen, we all have million dollar ideas in our heads, executing them and promoting them is the key.

You say you are a natural writer. What have you written before? Short stories? What kind of a feedback have you received?

My suggestion for you is, take one of your ideas, write a short film script based on it, something you can film by yourself with some friends, go shoot it, edit it, and post it here.
You will hopefully receive some constructive criticism, but most importantly you will find out if filmmaking is for you.

I think it's great that you have such enthusiasm! Try to hold on to that.

And it's quite all right that you're not sure about what you want to do. Like it's been suggested, you'll get a better idea as you go along, and by doing.

Good luck!

I'm going to try and be as nice as I can. If you are going to become a writer then it is essential that you practice correct grammar ALWAYS. Even in post like the one you made here. It is full of incorrect and lazy writing. I am only saying this to prove a point and not to offend you, but you yourself will have to make the best effort you can possible give on any path you take even when no one is watching. I hope you can see where I am coming from.

Do not take this as discouragement in any way. The odds are that you are not nearly as good of a writer as you think you are. That's okay, you can improve. As has already been said, great ideas are everywhere, everybody has them. Successful people have either the resources to pay other people to make their ideas a reality or the grim determination to drag their vision out of their minds and onto the screen by any means necessary. Which are you?
