Will this type of villain work?

I was thinking about doing something like neo-nazi villains, in modern times. But the whole nazi theme has been done before a lot and in most WWII films. One army from WWII that isn't done near as often are the Japanese. However there has been much more neo-nazi group criminal activity in real life, after WWII, but no "neo-Japanese army" groups, or whatever you would call them. Would it feasible and make enough sense to have a modern group that wants to carry out the beliefs of the Japanese of WWII, or would that just not work as a theme, for a thriller? Thanks. Just so there is no confusion, this is a new idea, and not of my other script discussions before.

Yeah but the British/Native thing has been done more than the Japanese, at least in the western movies I've seen. So the thing is is that it's easy use neo-nazis, because there are still a lot of people out there who believe in it. However if there was a group going around killing in the name of expanding Japan, the Japanese government would not take any land that a modern extremist group would try to claim for them. So would an extremist group be so angry they would kill for Japan, just for principle, even though it's not going to change anything? But I guess neo nazis know that their acts won't change anything either.

I appreciate the historical sentiments, but to put the obvious out there, this is a movie. It doesn't have to be real, it just needs to present a solid story. Are four kids really conquering Narnia? Are aliens really taking over the world like in Independence Day? Did the World War II really play out like Inglorious Basterds?

If you simply create a believable consistent universe, the audience will follow.

"The time 2015. Racked by natural disasters, foreign governments have taken advantage to pressure concessions from the Japanese government in exchange for aid. In response, the NTS has arisen. Operating outside of official jurisdiction, the Nippon Teikoku Seiei-gun, a mixed group of elite fighters operate covertly and will stop at nothing to restore Japan's honor and punish aggressors. When Hawaii becomes its target, it becomes a race to stop the threat."

It should be shot on site in Hawaii. And of course you'll want me to be onsite at the shooting as your script consultant. ;)

As long as it's believable to you when you write and produce it, that carries through the audience. A patriot doesn't see himself (or herself) as a villain. That doesn't mean the atrocities and brutality are right, but justification and interpretation often occur in hindsight--incidents at Abu Ghraib or waterboarding. And usually by the victor. In the scenario described, a devastated Diet would have to disavow affiliation and seem to be against the NTS to receive continued aid for reparations.

Oo. Now I'm inspired by this. I may have to write it myself. "24" meets "Hawaii 5-0".

True. Thanks. I think I will go with it. I have to do some more research and re-thinking but I think I may have come up with a plot that will work. Thanks guys.
