Makes me wonder how that happened. I mean, who owns the rights to Agent Smith? Who got paid by whom, etc? How does this sort of thing get arranged?

:lol: Kid was cute.

Just guessing here but the production company probably holds the rights to the characters. They got paid by GE and Weaving was probably paid by GE as well or GE paid his contract to the production company which paid him.

It can happen a million ways as each contract and arrangement is unique in some sense but that's the general tone of it.
