What's a good way to get a shot like this?

Looks to my eye that they replaced him with CGI partway down. They could have pretty easily had a set for that scene on a sound stage, had a green or bluescreen crash pad that the actor would fall into about ten feet down, extended the shot with a BG replacement from the actual location, and completed the fall with a CGI model.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it would be one method.
