What is Foley?

Foley is the performance of sound effects to picture. It is that little extra additive
that makes your film ever so realistic. Created back in 1927 by Jack Foley, it has
advanced ever so successful from its debut. If you were to go without Foley for your
film today, you would not have the audience drawn into your story but instead
having them feel that something is unbelievably off. The average consumer that goes out and sees a film has no idea that on set, everything magically isn’t put together perfectly. You’re lucky enough to get dialog recorded perfect on set. Which doesn’t happen ninety percent of the time. Because of everyone’s past experience with what we do now in Audio Post, it would be very hard to ever convince someone to see his or her feature film without all the necessary corrections. It has changed the way we see films and it will continue to be the way we hear things.
