I just looked at it again, wow you did make your own trypod and put a bolt in the middle and some grease.

after looking at it a fue times I see one thing that can become a stress point, the center where the crain meats the trypod, Take the boom back off and wrap the whole joint with fiberglass and redrill the hole, if this was to fail it would happen realy quick.

The wood is not predictable enough to put your cam on when it's that small.

I'm talking about where everything meets, like a spiders body.

Fiberglass will make it strongenough to hold your body weight.

Don't know if you have ever used fiberglass before but it's easy to use. You can get it at any Discount Auto Store,or hardware store.

cut your cloth- mating into strips squares what ever fits, mix your resin, and put it on with a paint brush.

Think of this like tape that will become like a rock.

You can learn how to mix it and play with it in paper Dixie Cups, and a paper plate, you just want it wet, not driping.

try to cover a small cardboard box first to get the hang of it.

Oh yea this stuff is realy cheap, and once you get the hang of it you can build crazzzzzy rigs.

I just looked all over the place for 101s on fiberglass, and nothing, this is realy close to what I'm talking about.

Pics 18 & 19 this is carbin not glass but the same principle, you can see the shaft is open but the structure is incapsulated for strength.

actually that tripod replaced a da vinci looking thing with rope holding the legs together. It failed spectacularly! Wish I had that on tape. I've since gotten hold of an old broadcast tripod from my dad. I'm not that worried about the junction as I have fender washers between everything and on the top and bottom spreading out the pressure. Basically does the same thing you are talking about. it now reaches 12 feet...that tripod is taller than me with the neck down and the legs extended. The neck doesn't go up as the ratchety bits are stipped out. Just about reaches the peak of my garage now.
