Transformers 4 - Bay's funny quote

"To clarify uninformed reports coming out of Toy Fair - Steven Spielberg and I are working on a whole new re imagining of Transformers, the fourth installment. We have been working on the idea for a few months. I'm excited about where it's headed. But first I'm doing a small $20 million dollar edgy black comedy of a true crime story set in Miami called "Pain and Gain," staring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, and very close to signing on a couple other great actors. I'm extremely excited to simplify my film career this spring with a great character piece. That starts filming at the end of March. I might then jump onto a very cool television show my company Platinum Dunes is selling to a major cable network. It might be my first pilot I might potentially direct. We are still working out the details of the deal."
- M. Bay

I guess when you get as awesome as he is... $20 million movies are just small side projects! Haha! Woofta.

I'd have to disagree with your assessment of Michael Bay being "awesome..."

But yes, $20 million would be nice! I could easily make 500 movies for that!

Say what you want about His Bayness...

...but if someone gave you 100+ million to make a movie, but it had to be the most mindless popcorn action flick ever...

You'd sell your soul in a heartbeat, and you know it.

Regardless, I hope my buds Erik Aadahl and Ethan Van Der Ryn win Best Sound Editing and Mixing at the Oscars this year for their work on Transformers 3...

Someday I'll be on that stage...

Oh very cool, Roc!

What's the difference between the Sound Editing & Sound Mixing categories, btw? I see "Drive" is in for editing... and that's the first film I've seen in a long time that I really got swept up into the environment with the audio alone.

Sound Editing is the creation of the audio elements. This includes recording raw sound effects, editing them together in a DAW, processing them, "Designing" the sounds - basically the Sound Design of the movie. It also includes all of the dialogue editing, ADR recording/editing, music recording/editing, etc.

Sound Mixing is putting all of those tracks made above (sometimes upwards to 20,000 individual pieces of audio) and mixing them down to the 5.1 or 7.1 channels for the release.

So Drive is in for editing, that means the person who recorded, edited and put together the car sounds is nominated for his work.
