Trading Video Clips

(Not sure if this is the right forum - but it pertains to us noobs who don't have the budget to shoot absolutely everything ourselves)

I know there are sites on the internet where one can purchase video clips, however I find them too generic to use/fit with the rest of my film. On the flip side I've been thinking of submitting some clips to some sites to see if I can make a few bucks.

But then I thought, well what if someone wanted a particular clip, something they couldn't do, but at the same time I have a need for a clip that they are more capable of acquiring? Is there a film co-op where people work together providing video in-kind between artists?

Real World Example: I was just thinking about it as I will be producing space battle video for my movie and I don't particularly care if someone else needs/wants it for their movie (give me credit of course). At the same time I need some roof top video for my next movie and maybe someone lives in an apartment can shoot that out their window?

I could use those pay resources where I try to sell my clip for $100 and buy another clip for $100, but if its a personal trade of video made for each other's purpose that I think would be better?

Thoughts or link to a site that does that? (New Sub-forum for Indietalk?)

If there isn't then there should be. I think it's a great idea. At the very least we can help each other out.

I can't get on my roof but I took these shots from my fire escape and a window just now. Is this the look you want? If so I'll throw a good lens on and get an angle you want or whatnot. If you want something a bit more urban (my neighborhood is a little residential), I work 15 blocks from the sears tower and while my building isn't a skyscraper, it might give you a nice urban look. (Can't promise to get that though, gotta get my boss's permission)

I think its a good idea too.

I live out in farm area....so I don't have many highrise type shots.....can give you cows though :)

I also live in a small town, (town surrounded by farms-like 3000 people), so I can get some "small town shots" as well for anyone. Maybe we should start a thread or social group, just let everyone know where they live, and what type of footage they can share?

Hey...I can see my house from here.....(looks out window suspiciously)

:D

Those are some nice shots-I need a fire-escape scene shot-I don't suppose you dress up as....

nah, forget it ;)

Those are nice shots though!

@Dreadylocks - Those videos are the right idea and angle (think along the lines that I have someone jumping from roof to roof), at night would be perfect (because who honestly runs around on roofs during the day?).

@All

Right now I don't have much footage (as I'm just starting out) but if you need 720p 24/30fps aquarium video I can accommodate, I also have some 640x480 30p underwater footage from the pacific ocean.

Once I finish up my space scenes those will also be available to share; hum... what else? Oh I have a lot of hi-res photos from my trips and such (europe and what not, so if you like buildings or skylines, I have thoses).

I can also get some night shots for those who camera doesn't handle that well (720p 24fps).

* I'm sure I could better, I took this an hour after playing the camera :)

Okay... So here is the first tidbit for those who would like to share...

Macro Ants

(No, I don't know what you would need Macro Ants for...:weird:)

Also if someone needs some background imagery I have an extensive selection of photos (high rez 10MP 99.999%) over on Flickr, and many more similar ones I haven't uploaded [this includes my European Travels which I've been really tardy in going through 5000 photos and putting some online.]

I hope to finish my space scenes soon but I'm missing some spacecraft models. Eventually I hope to use AE effects but those plugins are expensive (and most are current 32bit and AE CS5 is 64 bit so supplier need to update the code, sigh...:hmm:).

I was just talking about this idea, but had no luck in finding a website which was full of willing film-makers that would be ready to request what they want in exchange, rather than footage without a name. The latter is immediately what deters my interest, IF however there was a database of film-makers, with their area, previous work, genre specification. A bulletin board, for example.

NASHVILLE production company requires British phone-box footage.

It could be resolved, by either trade or small fee.

It would be evidently similar to language-learning sites, where two people from different countries learn each other the language.

Especially when you see a stunning location on a movie, but you know you're half away across the world.

SIDE NOTE: If there are any Japanese film makers here, there is a post box on the top of a real steep city street, that is outstanding. You know the drill.

Somebody needs to start this website, WE need to start this website. Viva la revolution!
