Testing new handheld gimbal for up to a BMCC with wireless joystick and bluetooth mod

The gimbal on the movie is called Howler. I installed a 32 bit alexmos controller, a bluetooth module and a wireless joystick.

The error of the gimbal is around 0.05 degree with slow movement and under 0.1 with faster movement. The new 32 bit alexmos controller seems more stable, though installing 2 IMUs is a bit more tricky than 1.

For the first time I could use the bluetooth module that did not want to work with previous versions of the boards and for the first time I use my wireless joystick, both are great as they get rid of wires that could change the gimbal balance and just disturb.

The Monkey Gimbal Howler is one of the most versatile gimbals I have designed. It uses 15mm cf tubes, two tubes at the back preventing accidental arm rotation, rails for the camera as in dslr rigs and a superior tube camera compartment that allows users to change the balance without any tools. The gimbal uses strong brushless motor that have been optimized for use on a gimbal and work extremely smooth allowing mounting very small cameras up to a 2.5kg equipments like BMCC. The adjustable depth arms may save your energy if you do not need large depth.

With this wireless joystick I started work on a wireless joystick system that will be able to be used on any dslr rig for follow focus, and of course on gimbals for controlling the camera and follow focus.

Here is the first test movie:

I am working on an 8 channel radio to serve joysticks, potentiometers, servos and step motors and as my gimbals use 15mm tube rails under the camera it is more less the same as in any dslr rig to mount a follow focus, so I hope that my radio will be usefull for gimbals and dslr rigs

I returned from my holiday and made a few hundred short clips using this setup:
