format Switching mid-speech

Is switching who a character is talking to mid-speech frowned upon?

It was back, like behind a bunch of other stuff.

In the above example, it would seem unwieldy to have to put TOMMY again and then have him talking to Noah. I have seen switching mid-speech done in scripts I've read, but I was wondering if it's the preferred way of doing things.

I actually think this looks a lot cleaner than using action to say so-and-so turns his head etc. So good to know it's acceptable.
