Student from South Carolina

Hello, I am a student currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology, and I am also taking Media Arts classes. Once I am done, I plan to go to graduate school for Visual Anthropology. My goal is to one day either work on, or create, ethnographic films. I am new to film, but I am excited to learn about it on this forum.

COOL, COOL, COOL, COOL, COOL!!!!!

So glad to have you here. I got my B.A. in Anthropology. If I had any areas of special focus, those were in Primatology and Visual Anthropology. Vis-Anth is how I got started in this whole filmmaking thing, but since then, I've converted to narrative stuff.

What year are you in?

I'd love to share my Vis-Anth methods with you, if you ever want to hear them. I'm so happy to have one of my own here!

:):):)

Oh, and I forgot to mention -- don't be fooled by my "special focus" being on Primatology. That's just cuz my favorite prof (the Vis-Anth guy) is a primatologist. Actually, my main interest, like you, was always cultural.

I had the option of B.S., but B.A. allowed so much more freedom in choosing classes. Say, for example, I was required to take one 300-level Phys-Anth class. I was able to choose Primate Social Behavior. So, technically, that's Phys-Anth, but it's sure got one heck of a Cultural spin.

Anyway, I look forward to exchanging ideas with you.

I'm glad you replied, I would be interested to hear about your methods in Vis-Anth. I am a junior right now in college, and I am just now beginning to really get into my major. I am taking a class this coming semester with the professor who is in charge of the Visual Anthropology certificate program at my school. Hopefully, from him, I will learn a lot more about the field of Vis-Anth. The school I go to does not offer it as a Master's Degree, but rather they just have a certificate program that you can complete while you are working on another M.A. Which actually I have found out is more than a lot of universities have in my area. Anyway, I would be interested to heat about your experience and I am glad there is someone I can talk to on this board who has it.

Also, I don't know if you have seen this website before (http://www.cultureunplugged.com/), but there are some really interesting documentaries on there by Visual Anthropologists.
