Starting out

Hey everyone I am new here and new to film making. I have always wanted to do it since I was in Junior high. I am always watching movies new and old.

I am wanting to start making short films to post on YouTube. I hope you guys can answer my questions so i can get started

1- What is a good camera to start out with? (All I have is a normal camera and my Iphone 6)
2- What can I do to come up with some good ideas? (I have a few but I suck at getting them down on paper to make the script.)
3- How do I go about getting actors/actresses? I don't have many friends and they are either in school or always busy from work..
4- Do I need to have a company name or should I just use my own name until I get started?

Thats all for now I hope I here something back soon..

Also I live in the US but will be moving to the Uk soon so Idk if that helps lol.

Welcome to indietalk.
1- What is a good camera to start out with? (All I have is a normal camera and my Iphone 6)
There are many threads here about cameras. Look through those.
A good camera to start with is the Panasonic V250 or the Canon
Vixia HF R500. Don't forget audio. Sound it often not high on
the priority of people starting but but sound is half the experience.
2- What can I do to come up with some good ideas? (I have a few but I suck at getting them down on paper to make the script.)
There is no trick. Okay, there is one: write. Everyday. Writing
a good script is very, very difficult. You get good at it by writing.
Everyday. It may take several months to come up with something
you really want to make.
3- How do I go about getting actors/actresses? I don't have many friends and they are either in school or always busy from work..
Actors can be found at acting schools. And drama departments in schools.
And there are dozens of casting web sites.
4- Do I need to have a company name or should I just use my own name until I get started?
No need for a company name. You can make as many movies as you want
without using a name at all.

1. The best camera is the camera you have, though I would recommend some sort of DSLR.
2. Find someone who likes to write or is creative, they can help you flesh out ideas.
3. Craigslist.
4. Doesn't matter, do whatever you like here, though typically only photographers and video producers use their name ( George Lucas excluded).

"Old man, how is it that you hear these things?"

"Young man, how is it that you do not?"

Your project will only look as good as it sounds, because
"Sound is half of the experience"

If your film looks terrible but has great sound, people might just think it's your aesthetic.
If your film looks great and has bad sound, people will think you're an amateur.
Sound is the first indicator to the industry that you know what you're doing.

No matter what else you do, GET THE SOUND RIGHT!!!

1) You have 2 cameras, so get started!
2) Write them down anyway. It's like starting filming: nothing happens until you make the time to do it.
Start writing, unfiltered and see where your thoughts go.
Afterwards you can see what can be done.
If you ant to get started, but you have no ideas: try recreating/spoofing a commercial or a scene you like. It will help you to discover how it all works.
3) Ask your friends.
If they say no. Ask the friends of your friends, post an add at the theater(school) or at school or online.
4) Just start. A name is thelast thing to worry about when starting.
