Lots of participants on IndieTalk have expressed interest in hooking up with others in their areas. I have recently moved to Indiana and have set up a meet up group (http://www.meetup.com/South-Central-Indiana-Film-and-Independent-Media/). I'm working to set a series of workshops for April. Indiana is a scenic place for making movies, television and webseries with its varied architecture and landscapes. The state also provides incentives for moviemaking. Indiana has some awesome educational programs producing promising cinematographers, directors, actors, writers and production staff. What is missing is a place and resource to bring all this talent together.
The South Central Indiana Film and Independent Media (SCIFIM) group will offer workshops to educate and develop skills, promote proposed and ongoing projects, serve as a resource for talent, and strengthen the independent filmmaking/media community in the area. The best way to learn is by doing, teaching, and applying what you've learned. Workshops would cover: screenwriting, videography, equipment, visual effects, editing, directing, acting, make-up, costuming, set design and lighting, stunt and fight choreography, audio, budgeting, production, distribution, etc. The resource section would help locate crew, talent, and opportunities. Why include 'Media'? Creating videogames requires the same level of story development and motion capture used in film. Music videos and documentaries, web series, television series all use the same techniques. Whatever your interest, this group provides a forum for support, sharing and learning.
