Sound Effects Library

Hello, I'm looking around online for a sound effects library/catalog that I could buy or download for free. I know there are sites that you could buy a single sound effect. But i was wondering if their is a library I could buy that has plenty of them so that way I have them handy on my computer. Sound effects I was looking for are door creaking/ footsteps/ wind/ gun shots/ movement in general. Just daily sounds we make through out the day. I did try recording the sounds with my camera, it did not sound that great. I prefer to just buy it.

Do you guys know any good products or sites that you could buy/download a library full of sound effects?

Thanks. :)

The Sony Motion Picture SFX Library is pretty killer, but definitely not free.

FreeSound.org is a great resource too, and it is free. You download one at a time though. But that's a good thing, it doesn't take up HDD space and you have a great search with keywords.

SFX are great to have on hand, but for most things decent foley will sound much much better.

You can get most of the major sound FX library packages from Sound Ideas:

Prices range from $50 to almost $9,000 depending upon the size and format of the collection.

You can download/buy by-the-sound or complete collections from Sound Dogs and Sonomic.

A couple of decent mics and a recorder come in very handy. Besides doing your own Foley work they're great for collecting sounds in the field. Given the time/budget I always prefer to create unique sounds for the projects on which I work. Even the sounds I don't use wind up in my ever growing personal sound FX collection for use on other projects.
