Songwriter trying my hand at writing for film

Hi everyone,

I'm half of a songwriting team who (until now) has mostly targeted country music artists. We also write a lot of music that would be considered more singer/songwriter/Americana, and not really suitable for Nashville, so we've decided to explore the possibility of custom-writing songs for indie films. We're not really interested in scoring entire films-- more about writing songs to fit particular scenes or full soundtracks. My co-writer is a world-class lyricist, and we have the ability to provide you with finished, licensed masters. Our songs are professionally recorded (not in a home studio, unless that's what you want) and we have access to a number of singers in various styles.

Up-front sync fees are not really something that would be that important to us at this point. To start we're just trying to gain experience and exposure for ourselves.

We're aware of companies who specialize in placement of music for films, and we do work with one such company, but they are more into placing existing songs into films. Our desire is to establish relationships and work directly with indie filmmakers to custom-write music specifically for their films.

Because we'd be spending a lot of our own time and money to produce and professionally record songs for you, we'll need to be a little selective about which projects we work on, but I'd encourage anyone looking for songs for their film to contact me. It's safe to say we're not the guys for rap/hip-hop/urban or heavy metal music, but we can do just about anything in country/folk/Americana or singer/songwriter genres (male or female singers) and can write and record quality songs under a flexible sync license so that we get paid only if your film is a commercial success.

You can hear our music at www.roadsidesongs.com. Most of the songs on our site are Nashville-demos, so don't be put off if they're too country for you. We can get a lot more gritty too.

Thanks,

Cameron Earnshaw

Website doesn't seem to load for me :/

Best of luck with your new venture. Sounds pretty awesome, tbh. It's relatively easy to find existing music that's good enough to use, but a custom-written song is much more unique.

Might want to rethink how you go about this, or word it. Accountants can be quite... resourceful. Just ask David Prowse, who's still waiting on residuals from Return of the Jedi. (It's never turned a profit, apparently. Star Wars flopped? Who knew?!)

Good luck! :)

Haha, you're right about that "creative accounting" : )

Thanks for pointing out that the website was down. I wasn't aware of it!! All fixed now.

Wow you guys are really talented! Quality stuff! I have a little road trip sequence in my film and I think these kind of music will really fit in! That being said, I'll definitely consider you guys maybe doing a soundtrack for the film. =))

Thank you Justin! We're just trying to get improve our craft and get noticed, and it would be great if it helped you out too. My phone number is on my web site, or you can PM me here.
