So what did you learn or do this weekend? (07/25)

Presenting another weekly episode of... well, this thread :D

Learn something (big or small) about the craft of filmmaking? Get busted by the cops while filming without a license? Cops film *you* making a quick getaway? Dog ate your script?

Must have some kind of story, idea or annecdote to recount... It's been a whole week!

Let's see....

My acting coach told me I'd never be a Toby McGuire. Oh, the pain! 8)

I also discovered that a friend of mine in NY knows someone here in CA that does some indie-projects that actually get shown on TV (Well, cable access... but beggars can't be choosers.) and suggested we get together.

How's *that* for long-distance networking?! Never know who knows who, and where. Moral of the story is... be nice to everyone*, even if they are not doing film/video. Never know who they may be related to.

I also had cardiac arrest climbing these today... but for a good cause.

So, have any tidbits (or even full-fledged novellas) on what you learned or did this week? Enquiring minds want to know...

* As you should anyway...

This weekend I did some rehearsal with my male actor for my new detective film that I'll be filming in about a week and a half. Went around to a few locations to see what we could use for filming. Here is one of the pics of our actor... Right here

I'm part of Zen's cardiac problems.8-[
Zen, let me know where I can send the money for the doctor bills. :D

I just got drunk on Bacardi and Cokes at Thunder valley indian casino in the Sacramento area :D

oh and then on Saturday I went partying in the SoMa (South of Market.. san Francisco)

Im saving up for a nice broadcast vid cam though.

I should take acting lessons with my kids.

I learned that when your brakes give out and you're stuck at the office all weekend because your car's in the shop, you have no excuse to NOT get the next episode of your web series completed. I was up editing until 5 a.m. before I crashed on the futon in our front entryway. Better to crash there than on the parkway, I'd say.

I also learned that when the graphic designer for a magazine that's running a story on your series calls to give you the specifics of what he needs for graphics related to the article, you should do your best to NOT lock your keys in your car while taking down said info. Especially when you're showing an episode of your series at an outdoor film event and the sole DVD of that episode is locked in your trunk.

I was on vacation all last week in the Outer Banks. Nags Head, NC Spent the whole week shooting pool, swimming in a pool, hanging in the hot tube and chillin on the beach.

It was a banner weekend. After weeks of pre-production prep work, several script reviews and rewrites, we spent all day Sunday (7/25) filming scenes for "The Birthday Present."

We managed to get 4 scenes done - and had a celebratory cookout afterward.

One important lesson I learned is to have a "cat wrangler" on location. No, there aren't any cats in the script but we lost a couple of takes because of my cat's incessant howling.

Anyway, that's four scenes down - and I don't want to count how many more to go!

Remember that "cat herder" Super Bowl spot a couple of years back? That was great.

Today's "Poke's Useless and Random Thought of the Day" was brought to you by GloboChem.
