Should I sell my youtube channel so I can afford film equipment?

I have a youtube channel with a good name, and it's perfect for getting views. some guy offered me $4000 for it. I have a good idea for a youtube series that I've been working on for 1 year now. my problem is that I need money for filming. I dont have any lights, and I dont have a boom pole for my shotgun mic, and I want a better camera too. I also need gas to drive around.

i dont know what to do, if i sell the youtube channel, then I can buy good equipment, but then I lose a good channel for marketing and getting views. If I keep the channel then I wont have any money for lights and thats the main thing that I need. I used my channel 2 years ago to get exposure to one of my film projects and it got 30,000 views just for being on my channel. what do you think i should do? I know how hard it is to get views, so this channel is a big deal

To be honest? I would have taken the $4000 and ran for the bank. Especially if you need the money for equipment to make your series. You can always come up with another Youtube channel. Just my 2 cents.

That's the first time i've ever heard of this.... How about you send a private message to all your subscribers saying you are starting a new, BETTER, youtube channel?

You can have your cake and eat it too.

well, that's a bit dishonest.... PM the members that you're opening another chanel, AFTER taking the money.
I hope this was a joke, because I'd not want to do business with people like you.

How many subscribers do you have? That's more important than number of views. Also, once you get to a certain number of views per month, your channel will become self-sustaining, and the first 1000 subs are the hardest to get.

I would counter with a higher price. Go back and tell him you want $8k. Nine times out of ten, when someone makes an initial offer out of the blue like that, they're low-balling you.

I say pm your subscribers and say something like this:

"Dear Subscribers,

My channel,______, will be under new management soon. However, I've opened a new account called _______. If you want more from me, and my series, you should subscribe that one. And I thank you for all of your encouragement--simply by subscribing, you're encouraging me to continue.

I hope to see you on my new channel.

Thanks for everything,
__________"

It should probably be longer or more personal, but it should resemble this in some way.

After you've sent those out...............SELL IT!

And never go with an original offer; ask for a wee bit more. I say ask for around 6K. If you're lucky, you'll get about 5K.

I agree with you 100%. That is shady business and will only lead to hard feelings between the current and new owner.

Cash, in a suitcase, now.

If you succeeded in making this kind of value with your youtube channel, you'll likely be able to do it again.

I don't know if youtube allows this sort of thing, but the selling of a password outside of YT is something YT isn't going to worry much about -- especially if the transaction was a suitcase full of cash.

Good luck.
