Shot Film Festival Requirements

Hello,

I'm in post-production of my first short film. I want to enter it into as many film festivals as logically and financially possible however I'd also like to hold a private screening here in London for the people who worked on the film to see as well as close friends and family.

I've heard that even having a screening like this can prevent you entering your short into some film festivals. Does anyone know if this is true and if so which festivals it is that this applies to?

I think you should be fine if it's a private screening, or you call it a test screening...etc. I think the problem is when you try and sell tickets to the public.

But to the best of my knowledge you'll be fine screening it for cast and crew.

Some festivals (and some categories within festivals) prefer or require they be the premiere venue for a film. Each festival has its own rules. We staged a premiere for a short last fall by four-walling an art theatre with two other shorts, and this disqualified us from a "New Films" category at the Detroit Independent Film Festival.

I wouldn't think that a private screening, for cast, crew and families, would necessarily qualify as a "premiere" though.
