watch SHORT FILM: Chess 4 Life

Hi guys I posted the trailer to this film a month or two ago and now I'm releasing the full film :)

Chess 4 Life SHORT SYNOPSIS:
Randy enters an unexpected game of chess at the showgrounds with twists our reality cannot imagine. His love of chess and his friend's pleadings force Randy into the game of his life. Literally. The game has a limit of twenty minutes, if it's not done by then, he plays again.

This film is an interesting twist on a game of chess. The story was originally written by Randy Ingermanson, but was adapted for screen by Brendan Cherry (myself)

Heh, reminded me a bit of the TZ episode, "A Game of Pool".

Nice try with that background switch at 0:20 - 0:25. Next time don't move the camera. You can get away with a static mask, and much less of that tedious (and dodgy-looking) rotoscoping. I'm sure you've figured that out yourself anyway. :)

I didn't enjoy this as much as your other film, No Place To Be, about debt. This was made before that film, yes? While the general story here is in place, it stalls out in the middle and finishes with a fairly weak ending. Oh, and the inconsistent lighting on the chessboard drove me bonkers

Still, it's a pretty ambitious project you chose to do. You didn't need a tonne of props or expensive sets, and you even took a crack at creating your own matte background with that carnival footage. You're doin' fine, as long as you keep learning from each film.

What's next? :)

Yeah makes sense, I wasn't sure how many people would notice that, and I was disappointed in the end result for that part, I'm not too keen on FX department so I guess I'll steer clear of moving backgrounds that are rotoscoped.

The script was written before No Place to Be but it was actually filmed and edited after No Place to Be. It's interesting because some people think this one is better, and others, like yourself have said they liked my previous better.

I'm learning an unbelievable amount with each film I do :)

Next is my major film for year twelve, but it won't be out for a while, I think October or something like that, due to the extensive planning you have to show in order to get good marks.

Thank you heaps for watching and for the feedback :D
