Shock Mounts?

I'm looking for shotgun mic shock mount suggestions! I'll be using a Rode NTG-2 and a ME66 on a small Rode boom pole. This setup is usually pretty nice indoors, but I'm shooting a lot of walking and talking scenes outdoors for a film and I need to cut some of the boom pole's sounds out. The person running the audio doesn't have experience, so it needs to eliminate a lot of the handling noise. The NTG-2 and ME66 are pretty close in diameter, so a mount made for one should fit the other. I already own a furry windscreen as well. I've read a lot of reviews on the SM4 and and several other brands, but the bad reviews freak me out on B&H (I'm on a tight budget).

There are two things you need to do:

First, a suspension mount is crucial. The Rycote Invision series is your best bet. Look at the INV-7.

Second, get a shortie XLR cable. You need to decouple the mic and mic cable, because lots of handling noise can travel right up the cable and into the mic. Use the shortie to jump from the mic to the longer cable, and use the clip at the base of the INV-7 to secure it.

Many Thanks, I've read some reviews on the INV-7 and I think I'm sold. Thanks for the information regarding the mic cable, it never crossed my mind! Would taping the cable down below the mount help?

Would taping the cable down below the mount help?

If there's any slack in the jumper (shortie), and there shouldn't be much, coil it then use a Velcro cable strap to secure it to itself before you clamp the cable in just above the connector. You do want to make sure that the joined XLR connectors are not swinging free, and the cable clip built into the suspension mount certainly gets you most of the way there.

If you need to secure anything to the pole, use a Velcro cable strap rather than tape. Reusable, and easy to reposition in a rush.
