"Shelldwellers" - The sequel to "Battle of the Shells"

Hi there,

It's my first time using crowdfunding.

I'm doing a doc series about a fish species from Lake Tanganyika and I will intertwine the stories of other animals and people around the Lake. How the same problems are dealt with in each environment?

I will be filming intensively from dawn till dusk with many cameras above and underwater for at least 7 weeks. I just hope the crocodiles won't be a part of this story :no:

Thanks!

The crowdfunding has started and things are going well for now, with some people trying to help in different ways.

Looks like a cool project, although I'm a little confused about a few things:

Why is this set in Lake Tanganyika? Your previous film was done in an aquarium, but the way that you plan on filming (with the static camera set-up) kind of renders shooting in a large lake pointless, doesn't it? Are you just going to be filming one cluster of shells and fish? Or will you be moving around the lake?

And where does your animation expertise fit into this- will you be animating portions? Also, will this be going ahead whether or not you reach your crowdfunding goal? Or do you require the £2000 for that in order to make the trip?

Best of luck- hopefully if you can clarify some of these points, the campaign will be more appealing to casual investors :)

Thanks for the tips. I am going to review the campaign based on your advise.

Right now, there's a fish forum trying to gather forces and funds to support the project.

I expect to gather around 3000 hours of footage and I am also trying to negotiate a donation of that raw footage to some entity in exchange for a declaration that will enable me to get some tax deduction.

The fish I shot in the first series were born in captivity, but their ancestors came from Lake Tanganyika.

In most underwater docs the diver holds the camera as he swims. But the fish I will be filming are extremely territorial and small, so I can leave the cameras there all day. But each day, the cameras will be in different positions and I am also considering changing their positions in the middle of the day.

But I will also be moving another structure with 3 cameras in the vicinity of the shelldwellers colony to film the other species that live around.

Another 2 cameras will be used to film people above water.

The objective is to see how each species (shelldwellers / other fish / people) deal with the same problems. In each chapter, the 3 stories will intertwine.

There will be 3 styles of storytelling going along:

- The narration of the shelldwellers story will be narrated by one of its members;
- The narration of the other fish will be told by a regular narrator;
- The story of the people that live around the lake will be narrated by themselves.

I am planning to use CGI to make it clear where each scene takes place and how the fish position themselves, like a strategy game.

I have no script, so I am ready to follow the stories as the fish decide to tell them.

The project will go ahead no matter what. I am asking just for 2000 because I was ready to expand the project if I got to that goal.

Here's the teaser. Too much? :)

Please remember that this is a sequel. Here's the trailer to the first series so you can understand a bit more where does it come from:
