dialogue Serious dialog topics?

I need a topic to expand on for a serious toned conversation. The context isn't really important, but I'm planning on having two men having a serious/urgent talk in a dark room for a few minutes, and then toward the end they're going to get into a loud altercation that revolves around an inside joke I have with my group of friends.

I've thought of going a "shady business men" route, maybe an expensive deal or client that didn't fall through, but I was totally shooting blank a few lines in. Any suggestions?

An idea I always found interesting was the story of The Dumbwaiter. Two men are sitting around reading the newspaper and talking about trivial stuff while waiting to get a message about who they are supposed to off. Alot of the conflict revolves around the newspaper articles being read and the incorrect usage of turns of phrase. I won't ruin it for you but the ending has a funny twist.

Unless you just making this for your and your friends, I'm gonna go ahead and say I think that using an inside joke is unwise. Things that are funny amongst your friends are not necessarily funny anywhere else. You don't want your scene to end with the viewer going 'huh?' and the only explanation being 'you had to be there.'

Know what I mean?

Have them argue over whether Bach Stradivarius trumpets made in The Bronx are better or worse than those made in Elkhart, Indiana.

Or whether LPs really sound better than CDs.

Or whether Sparky Anderson should have entered the baseball hall of fame as a Cincinnati Red or Detroit Tiger.

Or who was the best Stones guitarist, Brian Jones or Mick Taylor ("If you say Ron Wood I'll break your legs.")

For the most part I am making just to give my friends a laugh. I may post it elsewhere but it's mostly for them :D

Jones and Taylor had their moments but I can safely say it was Ron Wood.
haha just kidding, those are actually really good ideas, thank you.
