send a jpeg? I don't know what they're talking about!

I may have asked this question before, but I went through the search and can't find it if I did, soooo.....

Here's my situation:

I have been asked, on two different occasions, to send edited video footage to someone as a jpeg. I have been asked to send it through the mail and on disc. The newest request is so that it can be uploaded.

I haven't the slightest idea how to do that. Does this mean when the footage is edited, I should export it as a jpeg? I know one of the selections on FCP is jpeg-4. Can/Do I send it as an attachment?

I have asked people who know (?) FCP how to do this and they look at me blankly. So, okay, maybe I am asking them wrong or wording it wrong. All I know is I think I better figure out how to do this before it really becomes a issue for me.

Can someone explain to me what they mean and how to do this? Or at least explain to me why it can't be done...

If they are asking for a jpeg that sounds to me like they just want a still frame. Jpeg is not really a motion picture format, though there are some mjpeg (or motion jpeg, such as mjpeg2000) codecs available that give you jpeg compression for video...

I think you need to get clarification as to what specifically they are requesting. If they're looking for a still frame, or multiple still frames for promotional use, that makes sense, if they're looking for video, then it doesn't make any sense, and perhaps they mean mpeg and not jpeg...

thanks, Will

the problem is that I just can't see these folks as asking me for stills. I know this last person doesn't want a still, they want the whole project to put online....

Why not just call them up and straighten it out? The only thing we can do is guess what they want.
