Selling a photograph non-exclusively?

I've been approached to sell one of my photographs digitially for somebody's website. My understanding is that they want it as a cool looking banner across the top. The website is a business, which I would believe would be attempting to make profit (obviously not directly from my photo, just in general). Rights are also non-exclusive. I've previously sold a digital photograph for $50 which was a photograph from a not-for-profit event.

As I have had a few requests lately I thought I should ask how much I should ask for with the photo. When I take the photo I'm not taking it sell it either, I'm just taking it for fun.

btw I am posting this to photography forums just thought I would post here too

First try to name your photo. Then do a lookup online of photos of the same name and see what pops up. How close are those pictures to your photo? How much are similar photos available for purchase on the web. Find out the rate, add a premium and offer it.

Hope you sell it. Hope the amount is large.

That's 100% irrelevant, and should not be a consideration when deciding how much to charge.

That said... I've no idea what you should charge for this one photo for the one particular business. :)

How much would make you happy? Since they're a business, they'll be needing a receipt for tax purposes. That means you should be declaring this as income, so build your tax obligations into the cost, too.
