"Self Timer" - a short movie script, free for all...

Hello guys,

here´s my screenplay for a surreal b/w short, about 5 pages of gloomy madness about what waits for anyone who gives up his soul from nine to five.

Therefore this script is free for all with absolutely no need to talk about money as long as you don´t forget to mention my name in the credits.

Since the screenplay has a strong abstract touch, you might see it as "Eraserhead" meets "Fight Club" shot in a silent movie style.


PART ONE - INTRO:

INT. SLEEPING ROOM

A beeping alarm clock.

Mr. X awakens.

He tries to recollect himself and to orientate.

INT. BATHROOM

X enters the bathroom with its chessboard-like tiles and has a shower. View from above.

X´s body is seen blurred through the shower cabinet. The noise of the water is getting louder and mixes with muffled, distorted animal sounds.

INT. SLEEPING ROOM

X stands in front of his wardrobe, its open, mirror doors build a mirror maze.

Close up of X´s eyes inside the mirror. They express distrust, rejection and paranoia.

EXT. GARAGE

A dark-windowed, luxurious car drives out of a garage and onto a street as if radio-controlled. Slow motion.

The car is seen driving towards a mirrored skyscraper.

EXT. PARKING AREA

The car drives at low speed onto the parking area of the skyscraper, while the high rotational speed is loud and noisy. Car camera shooting the other car. Slow motion.


PART TWO - INSIDE:

INT. BUREAU

X sits alone inside a bureau in front of a black monitor. The tubes of a car engine are heard twice loudly.

X appears to be innerly torn, finally manages to cross his arms in a relaxed manner behind his back.

A neon bulb on the ceiling twinkles. It makes a sizzling, electrical sound.

INT. SMALL ROOM

X enters a small room with an automatic coffee maker.

He inserts money into the machine.

A guy with thick horn-rims appears in the entrance of the room.

The guy stops, raises his arm and makes a photo of X with his cell, then remains inactive in this position.

As X looks angry at him, the guy leaves.

INT. BUREAU

X reenters the bureau and opens a drawer of a desk.

He considers a photograph with a woman´s face on it. Restrained, muffled piano strumming, monotonously repeating.

EXT. ROOF TERRACE

X enters a roof terrace, far away street noises.

A cigarette wears away. Fast motion.

X looks at his watch, breathes deeply.

Then he heads to the exit door.



PART THREE - EVERYDAY LIFE:

INT. BUREAU

X is wearing a headset. A morse device is heard getting faster and louder, till there is only beeping left.

INT. ANOTHER BUREAU

The beeping remains. A woman in another bureau wearing a headset holds her head and writhes in pain on the floor.

INT. BUREAU

The lights go out, then a faceless man appears on the monitor. The water in the glass at the desk is at a slant. Dull bass.

INT. CORRIDORS

X walks past a dimly lit corridor towards a big mirror. He enters the mirror and exits another mirror changed.

INT. LARGE BUREAU

X walks through a large capacity bureau. Everywhere he goes papers start to fly through the air.

X grabs one of the papers and hands it to a secretary. She puts it scaredly inside a typewriter and edits it with lowered head.

EXT. PARKING AREA

X´s car drives without driver backwards out of its parking place.

INT. LARGE BUREAU

The loud tubes of the car engine cause torment in X. He´s on all fours, then slumps down.

INT. BUREAU

X reenters his bureau. Shortly after, his secretary serves him lunch on a platter.

INT. TOILET

X enters a toilet, then sits down on a toilet bowl.

The veins of his forehead bulge, whilst the neon bulbs go out twinkling.

As X sighes relievedly, the lights go on softly again.

INT. CONFERENCE ROOM

X stands inside a conference room. The room is empty apart from him and an old men.

The old man points repeatedly robot-like with his stick on a projected picture.

X´s cell rings. The old man feels insulted. X leaves the room.

INT. SERVER ROOM

X enters a server room that is filled to the brim with mainframe computers. All sorts of computer sounds and beeps.

He walks to a computer, pulls a flashing glassfiber cable out of it and connects it with another one.

INT. BUREAU

X reenters his bureau, switches the computer off and puts a cloak on.

He remains immobile at the door entrance for a short while. As the clock above him displays four, he moves on.

INT. LOBBY

X walks through an entrance hall that is full of plants.

He recognizes the guy with horntrimmers, as he heads towards the exit. The guy is standing immobile directly in front of a wall.



PART FOUR - FREE TIME:

EXT. ENTRANCE

X leaves the building. The picture slowly fades to white.

X tastes fresh air and enjoys the blowing wind.

EXT. STREETS

His car is seen driving down a street.

INT. SWIMMING BATH

X jumps out of great height with his back against the water. Slow motion.

INT. SUPERMARKET

X stands in front of a checkout counter. His bought items move gradually at the conveyor belt. The checkout girl scans different parts of his face and his upper body as if they need to be encashed.

EXT. CAR

Car tire at high rpm. The tire faces obliquely. Reflexes on the fender.

INT. CORRIDOR

X walks past a long corridor carrying a sports bag over his shoulder.

His face expresses tenseness as he walks directly towards the camera. The tubes of his car engine revs at high rpm. The sound mixes with the echoes and reverberation of the corridor.

INT. FITNESS ROOM

An empty room full of metallic machines. Wood parquet. Magnetic buzzing.

X raises his arms, then cracks his knuckles.

He pulls, heaves and presses weights at several machines. Metallic parts move. Muscle strands stretch.

Veins on his forehead and his sweat-soaked body clearly bulge. Twisted, disturbing animal sounds getting louder and more intense.

EXT. PARK LANE

X walks along a park lane. He encounters a young girl carrying three balloons.

She looks surprisedly at him. He stares at his sad face in one of the mirrored balloons.

The girl lets the balloon slip and it flies away.

X turns around a corner disorientated, then sits down on a bench.

His face expresses cluelessness.

Then X finally grabs his cell and calls somebody.

INT. PENTHOUSE

Luxurious penthouse appartment. Open entrance door. Big antelope statue. Glass table filled with newspapers. Telescope at the window.

Permanent phone ringing. Flickering ceiling lights. Two legs dangling from the ceiling in the middle of the room.

EXT. PARK LANE

X puts away his cell. He is still puzzled from his encounter with the girl.

Then he gets off the bench and walks left outside the picture.



PART FIVE - OUTRO:

INT. APPARTMENT LIVING ROOM

A glass is filled with Whiskey.

X drinks while he switches between different channels on a huge flatscreen.

All channels display nothing but the same black and white flickering. Switching noise, electrical crackle.

Several empty food boxes pile up on a glass table.

X still stares at the empty screen, that lightens the room unevenly. The sun has gone down by now.

Close-Up of X´s eyes. They display disinterest and emptyness. His pupils reflect the tv screen.

INT. PENTHOUSE

Different close-ups of a strung body. Camera flashes. Short loud repeating sounds of a rotating tire.

INT. APPARTMENT CORRIDOR

X stands in front of a long dark corridor. He sets foot on it hesitantly but knowing.

EXT. APPARTMENT ENTRANCE

A man wearing a ski mask stands extremely tensed at an entrance door. He turns his head to his armored companion, who looks at him.

Machine pistols are being disarmed.

A black glove pushes a door bell.

INT. APPARTMENT EMPTY ROOM

A camera stands on a tripod in the middle of an empty white room. X enters the room.

EXT. APPARTMENT ENTRANCE

A jump boot kicks in a door.

INT. APPARTMENT EMPTY ROOM

X halts in the middle of the room. Camera buzzing. The sound is getting louder.

INT. APPARTMENT CORRIDOR

Two big insect-like shadows glide along the wall of the corridor.

INT. APPARTMENT EMPTY ROOM

X scaredly crosses his arms because of a blazing, blinding light. Squealing sounds of thunder, flashes and cries.

His body just vanishes at the split of a second.

The two invaders wearing skimasks are desorientated. They exchange insecure views.

The intruders stand at the same place X has stood before. They look at each other questioningly, their body posture is clumsy.

Finally, the two put away their guns, stand side by side and take up positions.

I originally intended to do the movie myself, therefore the script has some camera positions in it, but you may alter it any way you like.

As for now I´m amongst other things really busy to work on a re-write of a full feature length script, with absolutely no time and energy to realize this myself, so here´s to you.
