Screening an Old Movie

Hey Guys

Not sure if this is the right topic to post under but...

If I wanted to hire a theatre out and screen some 1960 French Art films, by selling tickets to friends and the public, I would obviously need some kinda copyright permssion,

I have two questions.

How would I get this?

And would it cost a lot of money?

Cheers

Can you hire out a theater? Yes. Just call and ask the owner/manager how much they would charge you. Also, what kind of projection equipment they have. You might need a 16mm projector, depending on what format you've found the films in.

Copyright permission will depend on what kind of copyright there is on the film. 1960's French art films? If it wasn't released in the US, do some googling for French copyright, international copyright, and how it all is recognized.

For example, Django Reinhardt's music is in the public domain in the US, since he released everything he made in Paris.

If you do need to pay royalties, how much will it cost? There's only one way to find out, and that is to find the copyright holder and ask.
