Rob Zombie!!!

So, last night I went to the final leg of Rob Zombie’s UK tour, his first in 12 years.

I’ve been a massive fan of his since the Nineties, back in the White Zombie days, following him through into his solo career. I was massively excited when I found out he was making ‘House of 1000 Corpses’, but was fairly disappointed with the movie. To me ‘The Devils Rejects’ was far superior. Not being a fan of horror remakes, I was uncertain when I heard he was doing ‘Halloween’, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The sequel was okay. Now, I’m really looking forward to ‘The Lords of Salem’, due to begin filming in April.

Through his filmmaking career, Rob’s always been fairly controversial. People either love his movies, or loathe them. Any other fans on here? Any haters?

Anybody ever been to a Rob Zombie show? The gig last night was awesome. Pyrotechnics, animatronics, people in bizarre costumes, Joey Jordison (Slipknot) on drums, John5 (Marilyn Manson) on guitar, it really was excellent. The guy I went with wasn’t a massive Zombie fan, but he thought the show itself was awesome, and I think he now likes the music just a little bit more!

Anyway, just thought I’d share that with you guys!

Devils Rejects is definitely better than House of 1000 Corpses, but that's the only opinion I can give on his films. I don't like horror movies and those two accounted for some nights sleeping with the lights on, so I decided I didn't care who was directing them, no more horrors.

I'll be seeing Rob Zombie in a few days at the Melbourne Soundwave side show. Murderdolls are also playing, but I can't remember the other bands. I only really know a few songs, so I wasn't that excited, but now I'm kinda looking forward to it. Maybe if the pyrotechnics are impressive enough it will make up for missing out on Rammstein at Big Day Out a little while back :'(

The pyro wasn't quite as mental as a Rammstein show, but with all the costumes and everything it was still pretty amazing. If Soundwave is an outdoor festival, the pyro might be bigger, last nights gig was at the Birmingham Academy, a room with about 4000 capacity.

Soundwave looks good though, QotSA are playing. They've got to be one of my favourite bands of all time! Should be fun!

I never got into his music, and I personally can't stand his movies.

Why do I hate his movies? They are completely unoriginal. 1000 Corpses is an awful ripoff of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. His Halloween is nowhere near as good as the original. He just steals and steals and steals, and doesn't bring anything new to the horror genre.

But, my biggest complaint about his movies is, he uses Fuck to replace suspense, story and character. After the 50th fuck, it loses any type of threat. His movies are geared toward teens who are titillated by cussing.

But, I have to give him his due. His movies turn a huge profit. While thrash metal is one music I never got into, I'm sure he puts on a great show. I've always wanted to see GWAR, but haven't. Hank 3 and Ass Jack, very cool thrash music. Acoustic Guitar, Fiddle, Stand Up bass and drums. Loud and mean. Plus, Hank 3 looks exactly like Hank Sr with long hair.

Hmm, I'm not sure where he's playing. I think it's at the entertainment centre down there (I'm not familiar with Melbourne music venues since I live in Brisbane, unfortunately). I definitely don't expect any show to top Rammstein when it comes to pyrotechnics :D Fuck I love Rammstein.

I'm not going to Soundwave, I don't like festivals, side shows ftw! :D

Honestly, Rob Zombie's music isn't Thrash. It's much tamer than that! Much more controlled, slower, heavier riffs... less screaming... I think thats a bit of an illusion, created by the monesters and the horror themes.

I can understand people not liking his films, they’re very much an acquired taste. The original element that he brings to his films is sleaze… pure filth. Is it necessary? Not in the slightest, but, if you can tolerate it, at least it’s a bit of fun.
