archived-videos Rivers Rubins' Analog Recordings

Hey Everyone,

So, this is geared towards music/audio - but I figured I'd throw it into the experimental area - because it is very experimental. Every time I release a new episode, I'll just throw it in this same thread.

So, I began a weekly series last week where I will be releasing one fully analog recording each week - usually a cover song that's a bit more of a deep cut, to expose people to some interesting songs. It began when I decided to veer away from my digital studio for a bit to record on tape instead, simply because I just found it entertaining. However, I found that some of these songs when played minimalistically on an acoustic guitar can be really hauntingly beautiful in the scratchy realm of analog tape recording.

So, there you go!

Considering I've already made the same argument a dozen times over, I concede and give up to this ridiculously absurd argument - From here on forth, I'm just going to post the music here. Or hell, I'll make a new thread elsewhere where it isn't tainted by this absurd back and forth.

Returning back to the music...

Here is this week's recording, a Johnny Cash number. I'm really enjoying creating them, but I've decided the series is only going to run through the third week of August, because that's when I head off to film school. At that point, I'll be doing weekly/biweekly digital recordings. I can hammer out digital recordings very quick, but the actual process of analog makes these a much slower piece of work to produce. It isn't as forgiving at recording in digital, so you spend quite a bit of time for each individual song to get the right levels for each part of it and whatnot. It's been a fantastic learning experience, though, and the people on my channel seem to really enjoy them. So, here you go!:

This was last week's analog recording -

The series is going very well! My subscribers seem to be enjoying it. It also helped since I recently started doing a weekly email newsletter to my fans. It's nice to have a piece or two of content that is new every week, and expected each week.

Enjoy, 'If I Were A Carpenter'
