RIP Moebius (1938-2012)

you've watched sci-fi in the past 30 years, you know his work. He worked on Alien, Tron, Willow, The Abyss, The Fifth Element and more. Blade Runner was in part inspired by his designs, as well influencing Miyazaki and William Gibson.

I grew up with his artwork in Heavy Metal magazine. Always a guilty pleasure, but inbetween the gratuitious nudity, there is a lot of serious, mature comics there, and Moebius' work always stood out. As far as I know, Moebius is the only artist that has ever had an arcade, complete with original video games, dedicated to him (specifically his Airtight Garage work). Sadly, the games proved unpopular, so the concept wasn't continued (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metreon for more info).

I don't throw the word "visionary" around lightly; Moebius definitely was. Along with H.R. Geiger, he defined the look of late 20th century sci-fi. Rest in peace!
