Remove audio from uploaded Youtube video? (or download uncompressed from Youtube?)

Just got a bit of a dilemma here, I've just edited and uploaded a short clip for Uni and part of the criteria was No Audio but I forgot to remove it before I uploaded. I didn't save the edited clip anywhere (still have the dailies/rushes) either because I was working on a Apple Mac at Uni and I didn't have a Mac formatted HDD with me and I just wanted to get outa there ASAP!

I got home and there is audio!

So is there a way to remove audio from an already uploaded youtube video? I'm aware of Audioswap but as far as I know that only replaces the audio with another track and you can't remove the audio completely?

The other option I tried was to download the clip and edit it again removing the audio and re-upload it but downloading it from youtube again it's really compressed and ugly so if there is a way to download from youtube 'uncompressed'?

If I have to I'll just edit it again...

Thanks a bunch!

EDIT: I have searched already and couldn't find anything but I'm hoping that there is some way to do it!

With audio swap, can you upload a track or only use theirs? You could upload however many minutes of silence?

There's also an editor built into YouTube now. Never played with it, but I guess you tried it too?

Thanks for the replies!

I did have a play around with the editor didn't see anything in there. And with Audioswap, there MIGHT be a silent track somewhere but there are so many!

Can you use Audioswap to replace it with a silent audio track? I've never used it before.

I don't think so, I was hoping I could select a generic track to use from their list and just lower the volume all the way but it just goes back to the original audio from the video

Simple...open up your fav audio editor...Audacity is free load the orig soundtrack into it, select all then use the add silence tool, render the silence and then use audio swap

Interesting... I've uased Audacity a little bit already.

Sorry to be a Newbie about this but just to be clear:

Download the original sound only from youtube as an MP3, use the silence tool in Audacity then apply it to the clip again? I couldn't see an option there to upload your own sound clip to audioswap.

Yeah sounds like you'll have to download it, tweak it and reupload it. You won't get original quality because YouTube decompressed what you uploaded. Sorry man.

For future, if Vimeo is ok for class you can download and replace the original video and keep the same URL and view count and everything.

Damn oh well, I might have to just edit it again which probably wont be that bad after all, it will give me an excuse to reshoot a couple of things that didn't work out that great.
