Recording dialogue outdoors.

Outdoors, it is hard for me to record the dialogue in a way that makes the characters sound like they are further away, like in a mastershot.

Indoors, in a mastershot, as long as you have the mic a little higher than the actors, compared to a close up, you will get that further away sound, and it matches the distance of the characters in a mastershot.

But outdoors, if I have the mic five or six feet away in a master, it still sounds like they are right there in an extreme close up. I have the NTG-3 mic and the FR2LE recorder.

Does anyone know how to not make actors sound so close up, outdoors?

Thanks for the advice.

Keep it simple.
Record it as good as you can.
When you are outdoors and record from further away, you only get more noise and rubbish in your sound.
When you are indoors and record from further away (and the location is quiet) it sounds further away because an indoor location often has a noticeable reverb, because you are indoors.
Outdoors that's not always the case: it will just sound less loud.
You can do that in post :-p

Why don't you just record it as it is and don't bother too much about such things as 'in the mastershot it doesn't sound further away'. Just record it as clean as possible.
Add some background noises in post to create distance.

Keep it simple!
