Just thought I'd give a shout-out to this incredible movie. I'm sure many people on this forum have seen it, but for those who haven't, I highly recommend it.
So, in the 80's, a group of 12-year-old kids decided to do a shot-for-shot remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark, using their camcorder, and a whole ton of ingenuity. It took seven years for them to complete the film. So, as you watch the movie, you also get to see the kids grow up. It's really cute. You know that scene when Indy and Marion kiss? Rumor has it that that was the actual first-kiss between the boyfriend-girlfriend lead actor and actress.
You can't get it on DVD, cuz of course that's copyright infringement. However, Lucas and Spielberg have both seen it, and reportedly really like it (of course they do, it's awesome). So, it screens all over the place, with the proceeds going to charity, or something like that.
Anyway, it's a lot of fun to watch. I know there are a great deal of us on this forum for whom Raiders is a cherished part of our filmmaking influences, and the kids who made the adaptation are obviously passionate about it as well, and it shows in their work. Currently, it's screening in Seattle. Sooner or later, it will make it's way closer to you (I caught it in Richmond a couple years ago). When the opportunity arises, do not miss it.
