lighting Quick Lighting Reference Question

When doing research on lighting for video, will reference materials for photography transfer to video? So if I were to buy a book for lighting photography, will that information apply to lighting video? Are there any major differences between the two that I need to be aware of (outside of the fact that there is movement in video, of course).

Thanks!

The biggest difference is that when shooting stills you can use flash/strobe lights, and aren't restricted to continuous lighting. The fundamental techniques remain the same, with regards to the position, distance, filtering and flagging of the light, but the lighting instruments are different - a battery powered flashgun that you can fit in one hand may need the equivalent of a generator powered light that takes two men to lift, for example, when it comes to shooting video rather than stills

A book outlining the basic of photography should be perfectly adaptable to video, but there are plenty of beginner's lighting guides out there for video too.

That's the major difference. And it's a big one.

As chilipie said, you can learn the basics (key, fill, back) from a book
on still photography, but lighting for movement is quite different. I
learned lighting for film and when I shoot video I still light as if I am
shooting film.

I think the other major difference when shooting video is the amount
of light needed. Sure, you can get an image with a video camera, but
good lighting is different than good exposure.
