Questions from a Newb!

Hello everyone!

Recently separating from the military, Ive decided to go ahead and get school started. Ive decided to take Broadcasting/Video Production and should be starting in September.

I was wondering if anyone had some advice to give me pertaining school, getting some equipment ahead of time, editing software, making contacts or any advice that you would be willing to share with the newb.

Thank you in advance...

Welcome :)

To get the basics on filmmaking, search threads here on indietalk, and learn about the different aspects. This thread will get you started.

Videomaker has great tutorials and info:

If your college has competent professors and facilities, you will learn a lot there. It might be a good idea to make some short films on your own for practice, so just buy a cheap camcorder and just go shoot! Remember to equally invest money and time into proper sound equipment and recording, as well as lighting.

Almost all of these questions can and will be answered simply by sticking around on this site for a while.

-Every day there are more questions, answers and recommendations about equipment.
-It's packed with editors, casual and pro, who can help you there.
-You'll make plenty of potential contacts.

But you'll need to be more specific about your budget and requirements if you want to get specific equipment/editing advice on this thread. As that1guyy says: most of the information you're seeking will be already here if you poke about a wee bit.

Cracker Funk, I will see about getting tat book as soon as possible. I think I will check some book stores first. If they dont have it, theyll have something related.

NickClapper, I figured I would see stuff here and there. Ive been searching the forums and bookmarking things left and right. Just trying to get a little ahead, ya know?

Thanks to both of you for the time.
